C2C...

Formerly a radio astronomer at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Marcus Chown is currently the cosmology consultant for the weekly science magazine New Scientist. In the latter half, he talked about his latest work penetrating the enigma of gravity, and pondering some of the fascinating questions in science. He became intrigued by the paradoxes of gravity, which though it was first delineated by Isaac Newton way back in the 1600s, it remains the least understood force today. And, Chown noted, while it's a very weak force compared to such things as electromagnetism, on a vast scale-- that of planets, stars, and galaxies, gravity controls everything.

Gravity could be thought of as an "attractive force" between every form of matter, he explained, and the force gets weaker the further apart two masses are from each other. Einstein, he continued, showed that gravity didn't exist in the way that was previously understood, and that the sun warps or bends space-time around it, with gravitational waves produced by the disturbance. Interestingly, gravity cannot travel faster than the speed of light, he cited, so that if the sun were to disappear suddenly, the Earth would continue orbiting the sun for 8.5 minutes before realizing the sun was gone. The new quantum theory of gravity is attempting to describe the mysterious force through the principles of quantum mechanics, and suggests it may be caused by the exchange of theoretical particles called gravitons, Chown said.

Poster Comment:

Every atom/molecule has an inherent attracting field force which is cumulative, showing up as gravity when an accumulation becomes large enough.

Gravity is a factor only if you're inside a planet's atmosphere. Otherwise, electromagnetism is the universe's primary force. Einstein's failure to factor the electromagnetic effects on our universe into his gravitational THEORIES negates his "studies" on the subject. Gravity wells are a myth.

Electromagnetism weakens with distance considerably faster then gravity does, and orbital mechanics are very accurately predicted by understood gravitational forces. So if it's not gravity that explains orbital mechanics, what does?

Gravity is what keeps earth's atmosphere in place.

Solar familiarity. The material from every planetary object in our solar system came from one source: Sol. It's all connected from birth, electrically. Elemental dna. Ever wondered how the asteroid belt that lies btwn mars and jupiter came to be?

You sure it's not the vacuum of space forcing it down and keeping it in place?

Doubtful. Heavier elements are emitted from stars that go supernova. The material then ends up in orbit of a new star and later forms into planets. Our present sun is a new star. Heavier elements in our solar system was formed f from a prior star.

It's an orbital zone between what is now Mars and Jupiter which lacked sufficient gravitational material to form into a planet of it's own. Though perhaps it eventually will in another couple billion years or so. Perhaps Jupiter simply robbed too much material from the outer reaches of this zone.

Prior to planet formation, there was a solar disk of heavy materials orbiting the sun. This material collated into what is now Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Beyond Mars, there was insufficient mass to cause a 5th rocky planet to form. There is what is called a dwarf planet there, however, which may eventually clean up the astroid belt and meet today's definition of a planet.

But I see no reason why electrical charges would be required for the astroid belt.

You seem to say the vacuum of space contains positive pressure. However vacuums have always exerted negative pressure. It's why you can't roll down windows on spacecraft. Air would exit the ships. If the vacuum of space exerted positive pressure, planets would slow in their orbits and spiral into the sun, in the same way that satellites upon encountering the atmosphere slow and fall to earth.

Sun's UV and Northern Lights radiation push up in the outer atmosphere resulting in 50 to 100 tons of atmosphere being blown away into space each day Partly replaced by gases seeping out of earth's crust, evaporation.
