The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable. ~ H. L. Mencken
"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men." -- Samuel Adams (1722-1803)

I studied nasty diseases and their courses for a couple weeks before daring to attempt this chapter, which is probably why at times it reads like a medical book text.
I guess so. You are also well read on sailing, various types of medieval weaponry, including ballistas and such, and of course military tactics of the day. I've consulted my online dictionary a few times already.
As for this chapter, it is pretty grim. I might suggest you consider condensing it a little for that reason. It's one thing to read about them enduring a plague, but another to get the daily blow by blow of almost everyone dying, name by name. I suppose perhaps one purpose of this chapter is to add some more character and experience to Levin, whom I assume at this point will have a patch over his eye for the rest of his life and a scarred half face to match.
