Many of these ” neutraceuticals ” are protein molecules subject to digestive enzymatic breakdown into constituent amino acids and other free moieties;thus oral administration is a mirage sold to the gullible consumer.

colloidal, to help needs to be 800-1000 ppm ,, not 40 or 80,,, and, colloidal is ok internally but not the OXIDISED form ,as the surface oxidation off old silverware,, that is the bad form..

Vitamin C is certainly essential to prevent scurvy, but there’s enough in a normal diet to meet that need. Seamen used to suck lemons to prevent scurvy – works fine. It’s other supposed benefits are more dubious – it appears to boost immune response, and might, just might, help fight off colds. As for its universal efficacy for a huge range of diseases, I have written about that myth in previous pieces & might revive some of that if the topic comes up.

Rusty Brown in Canad...

At the risk of becoming repetitious, here’s something I have said here before: I started taking high-dose vitamin C in my early 50s for heart disease and my varicose veins promptly disappeared. There is no trace of them 20 years later. Apparently the extra vitamin C created extra collagen (vitamin C combines with amino acids from digested proteins to make collagen) which seems to have strengthened the veins so that they no longer bulge out under the weight of all that blood pressing down from above. Same with scurvy: the vitamin C becomes collagen which strengthens the vessels and capillaries so they don’t crack open and bleed. I’m a believer! A cardiologist looked at my angiogram from 9 years previously and told me that he “wouldn’t expect many men in my condition to be alive at that point” That was 8 years ago.

About 35 years ago I started taking mega doses of Vit C (with bioflavonoids), plus colostrum and a good food based multi-vit/mineral, at least 1 chiropractic adjustment a week and 10 minutes on a mini trampoline daily (no other exercise besides a little walking). I have added and dropped many other supplements over the years, and those have been my basis for over 35 years. Last year I had my telomeres checked, I was 68, my telomeres are those of a 49 year old and my resting pulse is 60. I have lived longer than both my father and my mother’s father, so it is not genes. I think the results I have experienced speak for themselves.

My wife, a nurse manager in a Cardiac ward, worked with Dr. Gundry at Loma Linda. She brought home his supplements and I started using them. They make me feel better. His prices are too high. But he does have an impeccable record as a pioneer in heart transplants. His own fat to fit journey is compelling. He is no snake oil salesman.

I started taking Vital Reds a year ago, at that time I was 30 pounds heavier, pre-diabetic, extremely bloated, and lacked energy. As someone with little time for a proper breakfast, a 16 ounce water with 1 scoop of Vital Reds gets my day off to a proper start. My Dr has reviewed the ingredients and stated that it contains nothing that will harm me. I am now at my proper weight and all of my blood work is in the normal range for a 50 year old male. I do agree that sometimes the sales pitch resembles a medicine man approach. Form your own opinion.

To the Arthritis paragraph, I would add Prolozone injections (NOT prolotherapy) which I have found very helpful for knee arthritis. Also Cetylmyristoleate and Boron.

Bob New...

Ditto that as to prolozone therapy. I have several friends who have avoided knee replacements with prolozone therapy. Their description is that their knees are like new, like a teenager again. I have been receiving prolozone injections in my hip for two months now in hope of avoiding a hip replacement. I could barely walk around the block beforehand and had extreme pain. After only two months I have less pain and am limping less. Sunday I walked over a mile with little discomfort. All the conventional doctors I have seen have said I absolutely need a hip replacement. They may ultimately be right. Hips are more tricky to repair with prolozone therapy than knees, shoulders, etc. according to the literature. Just the same, I am very encouraged and optimistic at the improvement I have gained in only two months from prolozone therapy. Whether I am able to ultimately avoid a hip replacement with PLZ therapy only time will tell. But, knowing of the success with it that several friends have had, I thought it prudential to give it a try first. Even though insurance doesn’t pay for it, it is really not very expensive.

Regarding the use of colloidal silver, I have been using it for over 30 years and raised my family using it as well, with no ill effects. Most viral and bacterial exposures can be avoided by daily ingestion of small amounts during cold and flu season. In the rare incidence of the flu, it has usually been completely eradicated in about 3 days with higher doses, while others have taken sometime weeks or even months to finally get rid of it. Our bioenergetic doctor whom we have seen for over 20 years has often recommended colloidal silver for various ailments over the years after testing us and determining the need for it. With good results. So far none of us have turned blue! The amount of colloidal silver needed to possibly cause agyria is far in excess of what is recommended for maintenance or for the treatment of occasional maladies. And ingesting such high quantities is totally discouraged and warned against!

For at least the past 15 years, I have been using a micro-particle colloidal silver generator which produces high quality CS very inexpensively and quite easily. We often give it away to friends who seem to always come back for more because it seems to work for them as well.

Thanks for time it took to put all this out.Esp the warning. My experience for what it is worth: Tumor on lower lung lobe 09. 1st 6 mnths it grew. All of the next 7 years of MRI’s showed it shrunk every time. I used European Drs. Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide highly diluted and daily increasing the 3 xs a day dosage. At same period of time it reduced a pre-cancerous cyst on Pancreas so that Dr never even called me back in after the annual MRI showed little left. No pain, no chemo, no radiation, no anxiety

www.mms-supplement.com/mms-africa.html ,,, It is interesting to note that the Malaria paraiste is responsible for more deaths each year than if you were to combine ALL deaths from other diseases combined!

What you should know is that according to information published from the clinic is that virtually 100% of those who participated were free of the Malaria parasite. Unfortunately, the Red Cross distanced themselves soon afterwards – claiming it to be not true! A MUST watch for anyone in my opinion!

MMS has helped cure more than 75,000 people in Africa so far… The Chlorine Dioxide Molecule has proven Deadly to the Malaria Parasite. Over 75,000 people have been treated sucessfully against the Malaria parasite by specially trained missionaries in Africa

Thanks you. Quite helpful information. I recently read that Asparagus is a powerful anti cancer treatment. Any evidence of this?

I use D-Mannose for UTI’s instead of antibiotic. It is awesome with D-Mannonse being the active ingredient in cranberry as well. So you just get a higher concentration of the actual active ingredient. My wife also has managed her type 2 diabetes going from A1C of 13 to 6.8 and 305 bgl to 112-139ish over 5 months. I am convinced it was the Nexium she was on for over 10 years for Barrets Espophagus (which it did heal!). Nexium takes away the ability of your body to absorb trace minerals such as magnesium, potassium, selenium etc.. She takes vanadyl sulfate, Magnesium citrate, chromium picolinate, Chelated zinc, 500mg cinnamon, Selenium (every other day). The connection with magnesium was made due to terrible leg cramps she was getting which we realized was because of the Nexium. She then stopped taking Nexium but when she went for the 5 yr endoscopy for Barrets the DR talked her into taking Priolosec which wouldn’t give you the leg cramps – that was true but it just so happened she went for yearly physical and that is where they discovered her high BGL (305). We did some research (google it) and realized that the Prilosec can cause high BGL – she went off it and her level dropped immediately by 50 pts ! She is careful about her diet eating good meals and very little added sugar. But we eat regular meals – just careful about heavy carbs. Eats a banana a day . She hasn’t taken any pharmacuticals for it at all ! We are hoping that her body is healing itself – we are actually following the same protocol as someone else and it did heal them – they are down to just taking liquid trace minerals after a year of the supplements. Those PPI for GERDS are not good long term!

Curious to hear more on the subject of lectins as well. A couple days ago I was having dinner with my mother and she informed me she is no longer eating tomatoes (at least not the seeds anyway) because of something she recently heard about the dangers lectins pose.

$tofu Just today I was researching whether tofu is a good or bad source of protein. As an “almost” vegetarian (only eat limited amount of chicken, turkey and fish) I came across an article discussing fermented vs non-fermented, etc, but the thing that really struck me was that 90% of soy is from Monsanto RoundUp ready seeds. That is something I definitely don’t want in my diet as I’m convinced RoundUp will be a banned substance before long. Don’t know if you use the same seeds in Ireland, but I do eat as much organic as I can to avoid any contact with RoundUp and other (probable) carcinogens.

Lots of grist for the mill in the comments above! I’ll check into some of the things mentioned, some of which I know absolutely nothing about. I’m reluctant to expose my ignorance, so before weighing in I’ll do some sleuthing & get back to you perhaps in a future post. I saw some questions as to why I concur with Dr Gundry about avoiding soy products, wheat grass and goji berries. First, soy products – seems to me that soy products including tofu are mostly a cheap non-nutritive yucky tasting filler. Yes, the planet could probably support several billion more people if we all lived on soy and gave up eating real food. Re wheat grass – humans cannot digest it. It simply adds to poop volume. Re goji berries – dismal taste & could interfere with metabolic pathway of numerous common medications, either shortening or prolonging the duration of action. And many thanks for all the comments. Best to all, Michael Jorrin

when co.’s produce various products, the have leftovers to get rid of. by-products. that is what tofu is … a by-product. i imagine someone recv’d a nice bonus for dreaming up a sales pitch to sell tofu as a health product, when it is a waste leftover.. same thing for flouride , a industrial waste by-product… what a marketing trick.

blackie... re: HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) for weight loss. My wife and I first used the spray in 2010. We followed the suggested protocols and were never hungry during the six week spray period, eating no more than 500 calories per day. We each lost about 25 lbs. As with any diet you must watch your diet afterwards if you want to maintain that weight loss. Go back to old eating habits and the weight will come back. Dr Simeons’ theory was that the HCG causes the body to use the fat that it stored up when you were over-eating.

Michael – for your flu article, look at Rapivab, the only IV flu antiviral approved for use in the ICU. Lots of children are dying from the flu this season.

I have been taking Dr. Keller’s Original Glutathione Formula for several years now. I was originally borderline diabetic, but it appears that OGF has reduced my A1C levels into a normal range. I do feel much healthier and younger these days than my 70 years. Also, OGF ingredients appear to be beneficial with regard to decreasing the debilitating effects of the flu.

Jim3D...

You mention folic acid ! Google 5~MTHF. The synthetic folate/folic acid in vitamins, supplements and processed foods (flours, breads, etc.) causes major misdiagnosed problems in the 30-50% of the population with this genetic trait. A cheap test available at doctor or online. A possible investment opportunity ???

NanaMother...

If you are unfortunate enough to catch the flu this season, I hope you have the following on hand: Viamin C, Zinc, Sambucol and Oscillococcinum ( from pharmacy OTC). Better and safer than Tamiflu. By all means, DO NOT GIVE TAMIFLU TO A CHILD!

prpllotus

Oscillococcinum is an extemely diluted product that is basically water. Look up how it is made- very enlightening. The Vit C , Zinc & Sambucol are the things that really help . The problem is that you have to take them at the earliest symptom for them to work.

Ken Lambdin...

Dear Michael,

I have read several of your articles and find them all to be medical advice from someone that is not a doctor or a Phd. Can you provide your credentials for basically bad mouthing virtually all supplements. Your comments about curcumin are basically wrong. Just for my benefit can you tall me how many Indian studies are included in the 21 you mention from your exhaustive study of PubMed citations. Does PubMed include non-American sources? Also, you claim participation in NDA paperwork. With no advanced degrees what was your participation in the NDA process? I worked as a sales rep. for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals so I guess that means I too could write a column because I have more credentials than you. I took pharmacology, pathogenic bacteriology, neural anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, histology, on and on in dental school and college. What science background do you actually have?

There are over 10,000 studies of curcumin worldwide that demonstrate its a very powerful anti-inflammatory. Indians have the lowest rate of Alzheimer’s and senile dementia of any country. It is believed that curcumin has a large effect on this disease. Bioperine solves the absorption problem. Since both of my parents died from Alzheimer’s that’s good enough for me. By the way Aricept and other such drugs are completely worthless for anything other than lining the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. Sadly any effect is probably a placebo effect that isn’t sustained whereas coconut oil helps a lot and is part of my regiment as well as my dog. Just Google it. If you don’t believe me just read the package insert for Aricept. They point out that Aricept might help for a small amount of time but does not effect the course of the disease. Imagine the FDA approved such an expensive waste of time. The emphasis should be on prevention because once your start losing your mind its basically over.

Supplements are not taken by most people to treat disease but rather to prevent disease. Physicians are paid by fee for service and have a vested interest that you do not stay healthy. They know nothing about prevention or supplements and your dismissive attitude discourages people from doing their own investigation. I will continue to read my monthly newsletters from physicians that I trust and do have credentials to make recommendations unlike you. Making your case based on brochures and other promotional materials put out by charlatans is disingenuous as these are just attempts to make massive amounts of money. But no one I listen to claims that curcumin will cure all diseases. I suggest that you offer a more balanced approach and you should reinforce that you are just a reporter and not any type of medical professional.

attacking the blog Guru… who paid you to show up here ? I have studied health and nutrition, and endless related info for nearly 40 years. I have watched info availability decline systematically during all those years. Most of what I study isn’t directly involved as classroom curriculum,, hence, not as controlled. college and schooling in general is to create students as a tool of their industry, as in job (industry profit ) protection. This article is spot on, with little I would care to add. most folks won’t do “extreme” change. peer pressure, etc., hence we have supplements, or we hope, prevention. as I said earlier, take supplements for 40-50 years and see if your health isn’t better than those who don’t.

JayBee...

I’m not a doctor, or even remotely involved with anything having to do with medicine, but here’s something that works for me.

I start my day very early, usually getting up at 4:00 a.m. or earlier. Here’s what I normally have for breakfast: a bowl of oatmeal made with two whole mashed up bananas, water, and blueberries (maybe 20 or 30 frozen ones). I heat this in the microwave. I guess that I don’t know how much oatmeal (whole, not instant) I put in the bowl as I just eyeball it, but a 48 ounce canister of oatmeal is good for about 10 to 15 meals.

I drink one or two small glasses of water with my meal, and also take one 50+ vitamin from Nature Made. That’s my normal breakfast. I don’t eat lunch (at least not during the workweek), and then I eat a rather large supper. I am 58 years old and have only missed four days of work due to illness during the past 26 years, and two of those days were because I had pink eye and didn’t think that I should expose my co-workers. I don’t take any medications (not even aspirin), and I drink a lot of water during the day (years ago I suffered from frequent headaches and migraines and discovered that they were caused by dehydration).

Is the breakfast that I eat at least partly responsible for my good health? I think so, but I also don’t drink or smoke, and I try to get a reasonable amount of sleep each night (probably averaging 6 hours per night during the workweek, with maybe 8 or 9 hours each night on the weekend).

What are the drawbacks to my breakfast? I get a kind of bloated feeling sometime in the early afternoon. That’s about it. My wife thinks that I should use 1% milk instead of water, but I haven’t had much milk for over 30 years.

doinit...

world health organization, says all eye problems are fungal, but can include bacterial. pink eye can indeed be contagious. Myself, I haven’t been sick a day since 1981, and am 70 years old now. for ecerything said or written, I find that health in general is not about what we eat, but rather, what we don’t eat.

Robert Detrick...

Note that Dr. Gundry’s skills are primarily as a surgeon, not as a scientifically proven nutritionist. He suggests his supplement program will reduce plaque buildup by 50% with not even one review scientifically corroborating it. Supplements are more likely to be effective today because of work done to assure they are properly absorbed or in extracts with a proper dosage or in bio-identical forms. So future work with supplements is likely to be beneficial beyond what previous studies may have shown. And there are new paths of discovery, such as NAD+. This past year The New Yorker had an excellent article on longevity including the role supplements might play.
