I read of the folks out in the California countryside being OK for the moment. But, that's like the Russian peasants hiding way out in the hinterlands of the Soviet Union: eventually, the state shows up just to prove that they're really in charge and that there's no escape from their overbearing intrusiveness.

Many years ago, military, transferred from shithole San francisco to desert of Idaho. Loved it. Winters were mild, summers were long.

the main lasting attraction was the lack of wall to wall human scum. In CA. one did not know if scum was going to rob you, rape you or run over you.
