Putin wants to restore Russia to its former glory. Now it seems that things have come full circle and since the U.S. under Obama refused to listen to him he has dug in his heels and it may lead to another world war.
That belief might need rethinking from a geo/poitical and demographic standpoint.
Two considerations...Trump may well remove all US forces off the Asian mainland. That should have been done long ago, leaving Russia alone with a 2500 mile border with...China.

True, but Putin himself has said he is tired of the eastward expansion of NATO.

A hundred years ago, Lenin and the Russians had visions of their western boundary being the....English channel.
That desire has NEVER faltered in 100 years.
Stalin almost made it after WWII. Only the US stopped it.
Now we have a counter balance in China. Russia must live with china, we do not. Consider if China invaded Russia, who would come to Russias aid???????? NATO IS SITTING ON WESTERN RUSSIAN BORDER IN STRENGTH. ATOMIC AND OTHERWISE.
