Russia's population continues to fall, as indicated by newly-published census results. With a population of 142,857,000, the country has dropped one place in the list of the world's most populous countries since the last census in 2002. The population has fallen by 2.3 million.

Boy, that's astounding. 8,500 villages turned ghost towns? I tho't freedom and Puttinsky were going to make Russia great again. No doubt a big part of it is the weather -- it's bad enuff in Siberia (quaint little district 1/3 larger than the USA) but it's grey and gloomy in much of the rest of Russia according to Hedrick Smith's The Russians. Weather has a huge impact on people, more than they know or are likely to admit.
