As you no doubt heard last week, May 4 is Star Wars Day, as in, May the fourth be with you. I know. Were a very punny society.
To mark the event, a liberal group calling itself Health Care Voter decided to hold a lightsaber rally in a Washington D.C. Ive never heard of them and there isnt much on their webpage, but apparently Alyssa Milano is a co-chair of the group.
If a video from the fine leftists over at Now This is any indication, the event was very much a modest gathering (Ive had larger dinner parties) where a panoply of Star Wars ephemera lightsabers, cosplay, John Williams Imperial March were on display in defense of Obamacare.
Apparently, May 4 was chosen because it was the one year anniversary of the health care repeal bills passage by the House of Representatives and not because it was a good way to get hipsters out.
Mika, the main event organizer and a supporter of the Affordable Care Act, was featured prominently in the video. Were here to make sure that the 217 Empire lawmakers who voted for the bill (to repeal Obamacare) are held accountable, she said, wielding a lightsaber clad in a Health Care Voter T-shirt and a Yoda cap.
Oh burn. She called those who voted to repeal one of the great disasters of our time members of the Empire! Were regular Palpatines, all of us who think the free market can provide better quality health care at a cheaper cost if we simply allow actual competition. Were building a veritable Death Star
of more choices at lower price points.
Perhaps Im being a bit snooty here. I mean, Mika surely knows about Obamacare and the benefits and pitfalls of it, right?
