The baby-faced Texan teen won prizes beating up on Evil Notzies in the Good War, but it warped the rest of his life in any number of ways. Paradigmatic: instead of beating up on the globalists and socialists taking over the US government (or homing in on any other form of domestic evil) he capitalized on his war legend.

Hell, he was from Texas -- why didn't the hero go to work exposing LBJ as the rising crook he was? Imagine what the Murphy legend could have done for that cause, instead of perpetuating the war lie via cheesy movies etc.

Having a native Texan exposing another native Texan's corruption sounds a bit off base to me. But maybe Murphy was unaware of how scandalous LBJ really was. At any rate he did not run for re-election in 68 and Nixon was elected. ;)

Audie Murphy had plenty on his plate as it was. His combat started in North Africa, continued through Sicily, Italy, and ended in Europe. He was wounded several times and contracted malaria (twice). He survived all of that, while nearly everybody he knew in the Army was killed. Why would he have 'fought LBJ'??

Guess I didn't make it that clear -- I was referring to his life after the war. My point being the valiant young cannon fodder are so willing to die killing strangers in their own countries, but once they come home where the real war is, the avenging moral fervor simply dies.
