I was good at that when I lived in Chicago. They had trouble with Dutch Elm disease that killed all of the American Elm trees in the city. So the city Forestry Department decided to plant more Maples and other trees since many of the neighborhoods were defoliated when the trees dies and had to be cut.
The Dutch Elm disease was carried by the bark beetles which burrowed into the trees and destroys the Cambium layer. That is the layer inside the bark that moves water from the roots to the leaves. ;)
