1620 – The Mayflower departs from Southampton, England on its first attempt to reach North America. The Mayflower was an English ship that famously transported the first English Puritans, known today as the Pilgrims, from Plymouth, England to the New World in 1620.

There were 102 passengers, and the crew is estimated to have been about 30, but the exact number is unknown. The ship has become a cultural icon in the history of the United States. The Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact prior to leaving the ship and establishing Plymouth Colony, a document which established a rudimentary form of democracy with each member contributing to the welfare of the community. There was a second ship named Mayflower which made the London to Plymouth, Massachusetts voyage several times.

The Mayflower restoration will be completed next year.

They were Separatists and not exactly Puritans. The Puritans arrived in Boston in 1630.

Happy Anniversary, Lod, and to your bride, and many more. I know the feeling on the time...I ask myself that question all the time.

I was going to add some thoughts on those Separatists/Puritans/Pilgrims regarding my strong belief they were cryptoJews and the proverbial "wolves in sheeps' clothing", but not to rain on your day; I'll save it for another day.

Remember that 40 years is just a blip in the eternal life Christ promised to us Christians. God's blessings on you.

The Puritans very nearly starved their first winter here in America. Only the native Indians kept them from this by teaching them how to plant corn, to hunt and find where the fishes were.
