This is one of the topics or subjects that has always vexed me. A 22LR (yes I know LR stands for long rifle but there are 22 shorts, 22longs, and 22long rifles so it is a nomenclature and semantic nightmare)...a 22lr can be fired out of a rifle or a handgun so is it a rifle round or a handgun round? As well as almost every cartridge considered a "pistol" round has been chambered in a rifle. see semantics.
That being said here is a list of pistols (not complete or conclusive) that can fire what are normally considered rifle rounds.
Ruger Blackhawk (30 carbine).
AMT automag (30 carbine).
AR pistols (a lot of different calibers).
AK pistols (5.56, 762X39, 5.45X39).
Thompson Center (a few different models in over 30 types of cartridges both factory and custom).
Remington XP 100 (again in multiple different chambering's)
Magnum Research Lone Eagle (multiple)
Wichita Firearms makes three models (multiple calibers)
Various custom jobs from single shoots to revolvers.
Just because they are firing rifle rounds,that doesn't mean they are getting rifle velocities when firing the center fire calibers.
44 Magnums are a very powerful handgun cartridge,but most of that excess power blows right out the back of the human body without even slowing down.
The ideal self-defense round is one that will expand to it's maximum diameter while coming to a complete stop against the skin in the back of whoever it was you just shot.
Since humans are thin-skinned animals with very little muscle and bone mass,something like a 44 Special or 45 Long Colt cartridge at moderate pressure levels/velocities with properly designed bullets that expand at these velocities would be close to being the ideal round.
