World News See other World News Articles Title: Ex-DM Underlines Superiority of Iranian Version of S-300 TEHRAN (FNA)- Former Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that the home-made version of the S-300 missile defense system is more advanced and sophisticated than the Russian model. General Vahidi, who is currently the president of the Supreme National Defense University, said when the Russians initially refused to deliver the S-300, Iran started to build a prototype of the long-range air defense system. “We told them that we will build the system ourselves indigenously, and ultimately, by God’s grace and through the diligence of the Iranian youth and elite, we built a better version in less than six years,” he added. “Today, the Islamic Republic has the main say in the West Asia region, and Iran’s discourse dominates,” Vahidi said. The discourse, however, is not one of “force and hegemony”, he added. “We are not trying to subject Iraq and Syria to hegemony, and do not seek to add even a palm’s length of soil to the country’s territory.” “Our discourse features extrication of humanity,” the commander said, adding that thanks to the efforts of the country’s researchers and elite “no door would remain closed to the country”. Iran designed and developed its own version of the S-300 missile shield, named Bavar 373, after the Russians shrugged off delivery of their advanced missile defense system to Iran on the pretext of the UN Security Council sanctions. The Iranian version has superior features over the original Russian model as it enjoys increased mobility, agility and reduced launch-preparation time. Iranian commanders had earlier said that Bavar 373 is similar to its original Russian model and traces and intercepts high-altitude targets. After the removal of sanctions, Russia delivered S-300 air defense systems to Iran under the existing contract. President Rouhani made the remarks in a message to North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday to congratulate the country’s Foundation Day and the 70th anniversary of the 1948 foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). "I congratulate September 9th, North Korea National Day, and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to Your Highness as well as the North Korean people", he added. Rouhani expressed the hope that through the resolve of the two countries' top officials and by relying on existing capacities, Tehran-Pyongyang relations would continue to boost and strengthen in all fields. In a relevant development in August, Iranian and North Korean top diplomats held a meeting in Tehran to discuss bilateral ties and other issues of mutual interest. The meeting between Javad Zarif and Ri Yong Ho was held after the latter's participation in ASEAN Regional Forum in Singapore last month. A North-Korean delegation had also traveled to Iran last year to attend President Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony. The Iranians had been developing their own version of the S-300 based on the Russian examples they bought from Soviet clients and from Chinese versions in the HQ 9 which included Israeli advances on the Patriot. The Iranians acquired Russian technology and licenses for the S-400. Where do you think they got the tech to mass produce Mach 14 IRBMs?
