Physical fitness and exercise sure make a difference.
Back in the late 80s, I was working a concert at Cubby Bear Lounge across the street from Wrigley Field at Clark and Addison.
Me and another guy were standing in front of the Sound Board. Some guy bumped into me and both of us almost fell on the sound board. I grab him and he says, "Hey man! I was pushed." I look to my right and this kid is pushing his way thru the crowd. I reach out and pop him in the head.
It turned out his sister was right behind him. She started hitting me in the face. Then he starts to hit me in the head. I put a stop to that real quick. First I pushed her away from me and then I reach out and put my arm around this guy's neck and pull him in close so he can't hit me any more.
Then I start pushing him toward the door. He kept trying to turn on me, so I would push him again. After two of those I said, "Go ahead and turn around again." He did. So I gave him a short, quick left with an open palm, right in the kisser. I was wearing leather gloves and when I hit him it made that distinctive sound, THWACK!
One of the guys on the crew near the entrance to dressing room and standing on a chair hollered, "Pancake face."
The kid flew into the doorway and Archie grabbed him by the hair on top of his head and winged him out the door.
His sister was behind me the whole time and just before I gave him the pancake face, she tries to kick me in the nuts from behind. She couldn't do it. After I gave him the pancake face, I turn and grab her by her blouse and threw her out after him.
The woosie called his mother. She came in there wanting to take notes. I told her, "You can't do a thing about it. It happened on the premises. I am Security here and what I say goes. You are lucky I just threw them out and did not prefer battery charges against them both."
That stuck an apple in her mouth and shut her up but good. ;)
