The serial numbers found on debris of the Buk missile which downed Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine show it was produced in 1986, the Russian military said. The projectile was owned by Ukraine, they added. There are two serial numbers found on fragments of the missile, which shot down the passenger airliner in June 2014 according to an international team of investigators led by the Netherlands. The numbers were marked on the engine and the nozzle of the missile. The Russian military on Monday said they had traced them to a missile which had the producer serial number 8868720.

If true, that would exonerate Russia from supplying the missile battery to the rebels, but doesn't say whether it was the rebels or Ukrainian military that shot it down, as the rebels may have captured or assumed control of it at the start of hostilities. I could believe it was the rebels, but if so, wouldn't consider it intentional on their part. They are fighting a war and shot down a few planes in the days prior. In war, non-combatants in the war zone get killed. That's what happens. Primary fault goes to traffic control that routed commercial airliners over a war zone.
You are correct - a moving target is somebody's next.....target. Yes and Air Traffic Control personnel have names. What are the names of those who sent Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 into a war zone? Where are the ATC communications and authorization records of that flight?
