Has a man-made structure ever effected you emotionally or spiritually?

It's something I've been thinking about since I discovered Second Empire plans nail what I would do, given a budget.

Found it. It's the "Carson House," and it is indeed in Eureka, California. It was built 1884-1886 by Samuel Newsom & Joseph C. Newsom for William Carson.

What kind of people would build such monstrous looking stuff?

William Carson was a lumber baron, who made his fortune logging the beautiful old growth California redwood trees. No wonder he had such a Satanic looking house built! ;)
