I just saw it...and WOW!

This movie will wake people up. It might even equip them spiritually to first identify and then resist would-be tyrants and their sometimes eager goonsquads.

The only thing I can't figure out is why Time Warner ever allowed such a movie to be made? It doesn't exactly depict BIG MEDIA in a favorable light. In fact, it's damning as hell of the CNNs and FoxNewsChannels of this world. Got any theories? Subscribe to *Restore the Republic*

A mere movie could possibly do all that?

Yes, this movie could. Among its lessons are:

Fascist governments thrive when people fear and they, therefore, actively promote same via hysterical big media propaganda and government-sponsored terror.

The key to reestablishing freedom is to master your fear, even your fear of death. Once that is acheived, the fascists have no more power and one becomes truly free.

All this talk about resisting the government is frightening me.

I want to call one of the government tattle-tale lines, but there's so many, I don't know which one to call.

I do not fear your call. Nor will I self-censor for fear of your tattle- telling. Hence, the would-be censors are rendered powerless. As are you.

This is the lesson of "V for Vendetta." ;^)

My guess is that it's a combination of not quite knowing or understanding what it was about (a comic book - you mean like the Hulk?...it's an action film?) and that the Wachowskis did so spectacularly well with the whole Matrix series. Money trumps everything.

I plan to see it this weekend. Thanks for your review of the movie. "Conservatives" have circled the wagons. It must hit a little too close to home... I mentioned this on another thread, I caught Glen Beck the other morning talking about V. He couldn't believe a movie like this was being shown at a time like this when America is fighting a war against terror. He said it glorified terrorism, glorified attacking a legitmate government, and just ought not to be allowed to be shown. From what I understand, this is about people living under a horrific, tyrannical government who have lost all other means of peaceful recourse. Using Glen Beck's logic and that of a majority of those at FR, our Founding Fathers were not justified. On one FR thread:

"If you liked the politics of last weekend's Oscar nominees, you'll love "V for Vendetta."

It's an exciting, quality Bin Laden film.

But if you're like the rest of mainstream America--you support our troops, believe in firmly responding to terrorists on our own shores, and/or respect Christianity--then, don't waste your time at this piece of garbage masquerading as a superhero movie. It is anything but."-- from the article by Debbie Schlussel

Link

I shouldn't be shocked by this any more, but somehow I still am. Granted, there is a certain degree of truth in the statement "Our Founders were terrorists" but given they had exhausted every possible means of peaceful recrourse against tyranny, what else was left to them in order to secure freedom and liberty? The disconnect going on with "conservatives" is mind-boggling. They actually see the "Britain" protrayed in this movie as a legitimate, (ordained) government. Its like Alex Jones says when he talks about how children understand the Star War's scenario and how it decends to tyranny but adults fail to grasp the concept. The guys who made this made the Matrix. The first one took some swipes at current worldviews and paradigms. Made lots of $$$$ in the process. Warner probably hoping to cash in again.

I've often felt that movies especially can help make complicated issues understandable to the general public and help move or shape public opinion. I think the Matrix series helped many people to understand just how much we are part of an extremely negative and pervasive system. Do you think V might have the same effect on many people - that it might inspire them to question their governments and actually work for their own freedom?

For one, nobody will be moved by this film. Second, it will be panned, and shit on by every media outlet.

Third, People are so fucking stupid that they'd never understand it, and just go to see it, because of the special effects.

This movie will do NOTHING for anyone, other than entertain them. The people of this country are so incredibly dead inside that to think of being anti-government, or patriotic is an affront to those who died on 9-11.

Terrorism is still one of those things that people don't understand. They'll see it, and think that it glorifies terrorism, NOT empowers people to change their worlds.

I promise you, this movie will be out of the theaters in less than a month.

Damn you're cynical, Tom. Of course, given the nightmare world we've been living in for at least a century and a half, you have every right to be. Still, I think there is reason for optimism.

The 9-11 truth movement has come along way in 4 years. Sure, there's a long way to go yet. But it's progress.

My hope is that this move prepares a seedbed in the minds of the sheeple where the truth can eventually take root.

I suggest that you go see it, perhaps several times. Every ticket bought sends a message. And perhaps it will stampede the sheeple into seeing it despite themselves.

I posted the following on the other 'V' thread...

Republicans and conservatives are making damn fools of themselves over the movie. For Pete's sake; it's based on a frickin' COMIC BOOK written back during the REAGAN administration by a British author who was all wound up over the "tyrannical" rule of Margaret Thatcher. As such; it is reasonably FAITHFUL to the source material. Those who think this movie was 'created out of the ether' solely to attack the current administration are narrow-monded morons...period. Movies based on comics are all the rage right now...another Superman and another X-Men are due later this year. This particular adaptation just features a storyline that makes 'bots' uncomfortable. Perhaps a guilty conscience? In any event; don't blame Hollywood for this one, folks...

Yes, the fascist government depicted in the movie is as evil as our own. That it doesn't flinch at that and shows its evil is one of the movies great virtues.

Viewers will not be able to resist the obvious parallels between the dystopic Britian portrayed in this movie and the unholy trinity's (Bush-Blair-Howard's) perverted Anglosphere.

Yes this movie is about supreme evil, but it is an evil we have been living with everyday in this country since 9/11. I rarely ever pay to see a movie in a theater twice, but I am going back today after only seeing it just last night, it's just too powerful to only see once. One point this movie makes clear, is to have any chance of defeating the supreme evil we are surrounded with, you must lose your fear of it. Fear is their number one weapon they have against us, if enough people lose their fear then we will truly have chance to take America back.

Its not as violent as some of the reviews make it to be. There is violence, no doubt. Silimar to "The Matrix" level of violence. People who are railing against this movie say it gives a black eye to Christianity. Not at all. Not unless you are willing to say 3 very corrupt people speak for the whole of the Church.

What it is, in essence, is what is coming and how to stand up to it.

It definitely attacks the false Christianity of today's GOP. It even lionizes lesbians and gays as the exploited scapegoats and political pawns of such moralizing hypocrites. Even though I'm usually put off by Hollywood's in-your- face promotion of a radical homosexual agenda, in this movie it did not bother me at all. After all,we have seen in this country how depraved murderous monsters have exploited the fear of the evil other (including homosexuals) to advance their criminal agenda. It would only be natural, then, that homosexuals would be in the vanguard of resisting same (though to balance it all out, they should have shown the Chancellor's cadre to be filled with darkside gays as Bush's admin obviously is...and Hitler's was).

On the surface it seems very odd indeed that Time Warner would put out such a movie and advertise it like crazy, unless they want people to get all worked up over it so a civil war can be set off in this country. I just don't see any other explanation.

I think James Spader's speech on Boston Legal had the same intent.

The PTB have been working overtime to get various groups, even men and women, to hate each other in this country.
