MAYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A teacher seen punching a student during a fight at Maywood Academy High School is gaining support as a GoFundMe set up for him is raking up thousands of dollars.

The Friday afternoon fight, which was captured on video, involved 64-year-old music teacher Marston Riley and a 14-year-old student. The student was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Riley was arrested and booked for child abuse but posted bond over the weekend. He is getting support - a GoFundMe account set up for him has raised more than $50,000 as of Monday afternoon.

All true,but unfortunately it's not his fault that he is a shithead. He has been taught his entire life that he is never going to be responsible for anything,including what he says and does.

It really is societies fault because it was our generations that allowed this to happen,and if you grow up not knowing any better,you don't think you are doing anything wrong.

On the bright side, he did learn than actions can have consequences. Unfortunately the school administration negated any value that lesson held.

The kid was ordered to leave the classroom, came back and threw a basketball at the teacher. Not grounds for a beatdown, granted, but the teacher shouldn't have to put up with that crap. If I tell someone to get off my property and they refuse, they are fair game. The classroom is the teacher's domain.

No fooling. I can recall how the kids misbehaved with one very old Nun when I was in grade school in Chicago. They called her "Prunie" because she had a lot of wrinkles in her face. I even recall my Aunt crying when she passed away. She did the book keeping over at the church Rectory. ;)

It's OK to hit a student if he is a threat. Many times the one belligerent student striking out against a teacher incites his/her fellow students.

I think the whole notion of integrating the schools was to disrupt the white students ability to get educated. I attended a High School in Indianapolis that had 10,000 students and the make up was about 50/50 black and white. We had race riots on a regular basis. The difference being that all students were treated the same and none were permitted to act belligerent or assault the teachers.

Schools today have kids carrying guns and knives to class and the situation may occasionally call for the teach - to teach a belligerent brat the hard lessons of life.

Our society is collapsing before our eyes as a result of acceptable mediocrity and a definite lack of discipline.

I recall a story I heard about a young black kid in High School. He was in the Counselor's office. The Counselor asked him, "What are you doing with yourself."

The black kid said, "Well, you know man, I hustles."

The Counselor told him, "Let me give you my definition of hustle. You hustle your ass into school and get your diploma, and then you hustle your ass out on the street and get a job." ;)

Depends on the age and size of the student,and how threatening they are. That kid needed the snot beaten out of him. It's a damn shame the one he picked to do the job fights as well as a 8 year old girl. I wanted to see teeth and blood flying.

After seeing that I changed my mind and decided the little shit should have gotten the crap beaten out of him.

Allowing thug jr to throw a basketball or any other weapon at you without responding to the violence with violence only encourages the rest of the "monkee see,monkey do" teen thugs to join on on a beatdown.

He's no Epic Beard Man, but without a little research I'd have to rank him among the top 64yo high school music teachers I've actually seen fighting.
