MAYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A teacher seen punching a student during a fight at Maywood Academy High School is gaining support as a GoFundMe set up for him is raking up thousands of dollars.

The Friday afternoon fight, which was captured on video, involved 64-year-old music teacher Marston Riley and a 14-year-old student. The student was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Riley was arrested and booked for child abuse but posted bond over the weekend. He is getting support - a GoFundMe account set up for him has raised more than $50,000 as of Monday afternoon.

The kid was ordered to leave the classroom, came back and threw a basketball at the teacher. Not grounds for a beatdown, granted, but the teacher shouldn't have to put up with that crap. If I tell someone to get off my property and they refuse, they are fair game. The classroom is the teacher's domain.

After seeing that I changed my mind and decided the little shit should have gotten the crap beaten out of him.

Allowing thug jr to throw a basketball or any other weapon at you without responding to the violence with violence only encourages the rest of the "monkee see,monkey do" teen thugs to join on on a beatdown.

IMNSHO,everything the teacher did was acceptable,except for being such a lousy fighter.

He's no Epic Beard Man, but without a little research I'd have to rank him among the top 64yo high school music teachers I've actually seen fighting.

IIRC,that hot brunette got the "Amber Lance" nickname,and a bunch of people were trying to track her down to find out what her real name was and what she thought of the fight.

BTW,I know of a few former SF NCO's that retired and went into school teaching,and it would be interesting to see what would happen if some punk wanna be badass started throwing hands at one of them.
