An Owl Shows Emotion to Her Rescuer

Owls are known for being solitary creatures in the wild. They hunt and live as loner animals that don’t seem to need the company of other creatures around. However, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t capable of attachment or emotion, which is shown by GiGi a rescued owl.

Her attachment and understanding of the person that rescued her shows a side of owls that is not commonly known or recognized as gratitude.

Several years ago my daughter found an injured screech owl in the road at night. She took it home and nursed it back to health. It loved to fly to her and perch on her shoulder. It was its favorite spot. A few weeks later, she let it go on our property. About a year later, we began to hear a screech owl in the woods near our drive and didn't think much about it. One day my daughter stopped by and this owl flew a few feet away from her and started talking to her. Soon its mate flew next to her, and pretty soon two babies flew over. We don't know for sure, but we think it might have been the owl she had rescued.

p.s. not sure why this post is garbled. Tried to correct it and it still came out garbled. First there was one owl, then its mate, and then two babies. That's how the story should read. Let's try again. :)

I would say that is very likely. Animals are very intelligent in their own ways.

I saw a video of some divers who came into contact with a whale that was tangled in a fishing net. The divers used their knives to cut away the net. When the whale left it gave them about 30 breaches as a thank you. The whale was smart enough to come to the humans for help. ;)

I love these kinds of stories. I would have loved to see the whale make those breaches. I lived in Alaska a few years, and witnessed it only a couple of times. One time we heard the whales were in the channel, and my mom and I jumped in the car and drove up and down the channel trying to spot them. We finally did. We got out on the beach and watched a long time. The sight of them breaching just takes your breath away. So amazing.

I lived in Alaska

I went to high school with a guy that lives up there. He could not make it to the last reunion, but neither could I, so we are even. ;)
