Walker added that hypnosis can be as effective as psychotherapy, and "you can do it without medication." Walker also addressed the issue of mind-controlled assassins and said that people can be hypnotized to perform acts and not remember, but the propensity to commit the act must be present. In other words, he said, you can’t hypnotize someone to do something which they find morally wrong. He added that hypnosis can be used to cure depression and also as a pain management tool. When going in for a biopsy, Walker’s wife asked him to use hypnosis rather than agree to anasthesia. The physician allowed it, and later said its effectiveness was "the damndest thing I’ve ever seen." Walker cautioned against using hypnosis for recovering buried memories, asking "at what cost?" The subconscious mind may be blocking certain memories to protect the conscious mind, he added.
