Charlie Dent: Warren's 2020 Announcement 'Total Gift' to Trump

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's announcement about her presidential campaign is a "total gift" to President Donald Trump, as she's the candidate he "clearly wants," former GOP Rep. Charlie Dent said Monday.

“Democrats want a new generation of leadership," Dent, now a CNN contributor, told "New Day." "They’re looking at someone like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker or Beto O’Rourke."

Warren will bring to the table "much of what 'Red State America'" dislikes, said Dent. “I can’t tell you if it’s a smart move or not but this is a total gift to President Trump."

Warren, D-Mass., Monday announced her exploratory committee, taking her first steps toward her long-anticipated 2020 presidential campaign.

"No matter what our differences, most of us want the same thing," the 69-year-old Massachusetts Democrat said in a video. "To be able to work hard, play by the same set of rules and take care of the people we love. That's what I'm fighting for and that's why today I'm launching an exploratory committee for president."

Her video also noted the economic challenges that face people of color, and showed images of a women's march and her participation at an LGBT event. Warren followed up with an email to supporters saying she'll announce her campaign plan formally in early 2019.

Warren became a national name about 10 years ago, when she called for more consumer protections during the then-financial crisis, and has since become one of her party's prominent liberals.

Even without her running for office, she has often been the target of many of Trump's more pointed jabs, including his nicknaming her "Pocahontas" to ridicule her claims of Native American ancestry.

Elizabeth Warren, aka Pocahontas, should have remained on the sidelines. She does not have the right stuff, and is not sitting on the right stuff either (just like Billary), to be POTUS.
