Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) will head to Canada this month for hernia surgery, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.

Surgeons will treat an injury he sustained when he was attacked at his home in late 2017, the Louisville, Ky., newspaper reported.

A neighbor of Paul's, Rene Boucher, was charged with assault in the incident.

Boucher said he became angry because Paul repeatedly placed debris near his property. He tackled Paul after the senator blew leaves onto Boucher's property, Boucher previously said.

Boucher was ultimately sentenced to 30 days in prison, and Paul has since also filed a civil suit against him.

Paul is suing Boucher for $4,000 in medical costs but the final amount he seeks could be updated and "will certainly include the hernia surgery," the senator said in court documents, according to the Courier Journal.

His hernia procedure is likely to cost between $5,000 and $8,000, the newspaper reported, citing court documents.

The hospital where Paul will be treated, the Shouldice Hernia Hospital, is "the only licensed hospital in the world dedicated to repairing hernias," according to its website.

Kelsey Cooper, a spokeswoman for Paul, told The Hill that Paul chose to have his surgery at the Canadian hospital because it is a "world renowned hospital."

“This is a private, world renowned hospital separate from any system and people come from around the world to pay cash for their services," Cooper said in a statement.

As a US senator, he has platinum insurance and normally a hernia operation is not particularly tricky. So why go to Canada?

I think they have more up there but you might be on the right track. Might have good reason for avoiding Walter Reed.

I've tackled a few people when working the concerts. I do not think I have ever caused any of them to get a hernia. But I did manage to put a few lumps on some of them. LOL
