During an interview on Thursday, Fox News Harris Faulkner asked the president about possible primary opponents in the 2020 election, including the outgoing governor of Ohio, John Kasich, and Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who is retiring. Im going to bring up John Kasich and Im gonna bring up Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, because they say they may run against you in 2020, Faulkner said. I hope so, the president immediately replied. Both Kasich and Flake have floated the idea of running against the president to be the 2020 Republican nominee. At least 20 Democrats are also testing the waters to run in the presidential election. Last month, Kasich told ABCs George Stephanopoulos that he was very seriously considering a bid, adding that we need different leadership, there isnt any question about it. The Ohio Republicans term ends in January. Flake last month also said that he had not ruled out running in 2020. Ive not ruled it out. Ive not ruled it in. Just, somebody needs to run on the Republican side, Flake said at the time, adding that he believed that Kasich, as well as Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, could be credible challengers to the president. Trump, however, bragged that his supporters would probably stay with him, rather than other prospective opponents. I think I have the greatest base in the history of politics, the president said. I have people that I love and love me, frankly. But some potential candidates arent running scared. Be careful what you wish for, Kasich strategist John Weaver told POLITICO when asked about the presidents comments. The president also bragged that he had a lot of support from women, despite a number of women, especially in the suburbs, voting against Republicans in the midterm election last month. I got women that, theyre the greatest, Trump said. I have tremendous women support. I mean, Hillary wished she had my numbers, OK? he added, referring to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his 2016 Democratic opponent. Trump also pointed to his approval rating, which a Fox News poll put at 46 percent. He said that it had stayed consistent despite claiming he gets only bad news in the media, adding that his voters would continue to support him no matter what. Those people they never waver, the president said. Poster Comment: Bring it on! Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top Page Up Full Thread Page Down Bottom/Latest
