Watch this new truck move out like a boss!!
"Stock motor and transmission, Whipple (supercharger) 2018 F-150 running 9.99 first pass off the trailer. Second pass it ran a 9.94 making it the first 2018 F-150 in the 9's as well as the first F-150 in the 9's with a stock motor and transmission."
Also,they are running on a 1/8th mile track,not a 1/4 mile track.
I knew when I saw the title it could not be 1/4 mile. The best time for a stock Challenger Hellcat is 10.56, and I suspect it has a massive power to weight advantage.

That was a full 1/4 mile run - that truck is moving. Stop the video and read the ET slips at the end: 9.94 seconds at 137 mph. At the 1/8 mile was 6.39 at 111 mph.

I enjoyed some of his other videos: that is one bad pick'em up.

Wow, that is seriously fast. Hell, even a 427 Cobra could only run about a 12.2

Yep. The old muscle cars were fun, but didn't handle or brake well. No one will ever miss bias-ply tires and drum brakes.

My garage queen is a 350 Chevy short block and does the quarter in about 14 secs. That's stock but plenty for me. My street draggin'days are long over. ;)
pete just changed the oil in his ford fiesta, that makes him a mechanic (so he says) so he knows all about cars/engines/performance. just ask him he'll tell you.
I used to be in a hurry, then I figured out I was just getting nowhere fast.

One of my personal all-time favorite You Tube videos is of a brand new Hellcat drag racing a 61 Valiant stationwagon with a slant 6 on a quarter mile track, and the slant 6 eats his ass UP.
I think there was even something wrong with the engine in the Valiant. It sure didn't want to run very smooth at idle. Seemed to have a miss. Who knows how fast it would run if the guy would tune it up and get rid of that miss? (G)
BTW,both cars are the same shade of green, and the same guy owns both cars. He had just bought the Hellcat, and wanted to run it against his Valiant just for grins.

That was as a street car. Put the right set of tires on it and put in a lower ring and pinion gear, and that story will change.

I bought a 40 Ford tudor when I was 12. I have owned hot rod cars or motorcycles all my life. I have a 1800 square foot shop full of cars from the 30's and 40's,including an original 1932 Ford 5 window coupe with an original Dago dropped axle up front that was originally built in the late 40's. I bought it without an engine in it,and it now has a 412 SBC engine that is balanced and bolted together by a NASCAR speed shop (I have a friend that is a mechanic there)that has a fairly hot street cam,350 chevy rods in the 400 block,.060 overbore,Dart 2 heads,10 to 1 Keith Black flattop pistons with gapless rings, roller rockers,Pete Jackson gear drive, and dual AFB's on a 60's Edelbrock intake.
I also have a 33 Plymouth coupe I am working on that is getting a 6 carb DeSoto hemi with a push-button 727,and a 34 Ford pu that is getting a dual quad 312 Ford.
You?

sure you do pete, and the cia tried to make you one of theirs.
What does the CIA have to do with hot rods?

MoPar had a Power Pack kit for the 225cid (tall block) slant six, with duel carbs, long runner ram induction intake manifold, tri-Y headers, and if I remember corretctly even a super slinky thin head gasket that boosted compression a hair.
Those things ate up the Ford & GM sixes in the junior class sanctioned racing, 1962-64 or so, to the point they were banned.
I'm one of the few folks that love a straight six, they actually run better than V8s because of the physics. Each rise/fall/fire/discharge is perfectly counterbalanced by opposite action in mirrored cylinder. No heavy crankshaft counterweights are needed, as they are on crossplane V8s.

LOL, I think they were already running 9" rubber and 4.30 Detroit Locker straight out of Shelby shop.

Me,too. I am leaving the flat 6 in my 51 business coupe, and adding a 3 carb intake, cast iron headers (if I can find them, split manaifolds if I can't),and a finned aluminum high-compression head (if I can find one) to go along with the 3/4 grind cam.
These things sound really nasty with a hot cam, split exhaust, and glasspacks.
I'm making plans on doing pretty much the same thing with my 33 Dodge 4dr that is getting a 251 DeSoto flat 6,and my 42 Dodge business coupe that is keeping it's original 30k mile 230 flat 6. Already bought new Edgy finned aluminum heads for both,as well as the intakes and carbs.
The only negative about the flat 6's is that hi-po parts are hard to find, and you have to buy them when you find them no matter if you can afford them or not right at that moment. I missed a deal on a finned aluminum high compression Edmunds head and matching 3x1 intake from a guy on the HAMB by trying to get him to hold it for me for a week instead of just going ahead and putting it on my credit card. Been two years and I haven't seen a head for a flat 6 Ford since then.

That was pretty rare for a Cobra. They were top end race cars as built, and so pricey that almost nobody that bought one seems to have ever modified it. I suspect you would probably faint at a insurance quote on one today if you planned on tagging and driving it. I am just guessing, but I am guessing than an original 427 Cobra these days that is even suitable for restoration would probably cost more than 200 grand, just to buy it.
That kind of stuff is for people who can afford to not pay attention to numbers.

Pretty much all the aftermarket hop-up stuff of that era was for Ford flat-head V8s, until Caddy and Olds came out with OHV V8s in 49.

Yup!The breater is painted red, though. Came like that from the factory. I have seen the chrome ones too,but I think the owners had them chromed.
Even have a pair of the original T-Bird finned aluminum valve covers, too.
Believe it or not,but I found them on a engine in a junkyard, and bought them for 100 bucks or 150 bucks. Can't remember which at this late date. These things are beautiful when polished up.
Got really lucky on the intake and carbs. A email friend I had never met told me he had a friend that had taken a E-Bird intake setup off his 57 T-Bird about 20 years ago and put it under his workbench, and if I was interested he would ask the guy if he still has it and how much he wants for it.
The guy still had it,it had the original oval T-Bird air filter instead of the big oval passenger car filter, both teapot carbs, and the original linkage, and he told me the guy wanted $500 for it plus shipping, and asked me if I wanted it.
I think I may have wet myself a little. I now have it sitting under MY workbench. Yeah,I know. I can buy a new Blue Magic single quad Y-Block intake that will outperform it,but it won't look as cool as the dual-quad E-Bird with the teapot carbs.
BTW,you may not realize it,but you can now buy brand new aluminum heads and blocks for a Y-Block Ford,as well as stroker cranks. No,they aren't cheap, but if you have the bucks and want to screw with people by challenging them to run against your "stock 292 Y-Block",you can have a hell of a lot of fun with them.
I also have a pair of Edsel stamped steel valve covers and a pair stamped "Mercury" that I can put on it to really confuse young people if I want.
Those old Y-Block Fords were a LOT faster than most people think they were. A friend had one in a custom 300 from the factory when I was 14,and there were 6 of us in his car one night when we raced a dual-quad 283 Corvette on a long bridge. We just drove right away from him on top end.
Plus, the old Y-blocks sound pretty nasty with glasspacks, too.
Going to use a 3 speed + OD unit from a early 80's F-150 because it gives me overdrive, and because with the tall original shifter sitting in the middle of the hump,it will look like a 39 Ford trans in the truck. All I have to do is shorten the input shaft maybe 1/8th of an inch and drill two new holes in the top of the stock Y-Block bellhousing, and it will bolt right together. They are not the strongest transmissions in the world, but they are a lot tougher than a 39 Ford trans, and these days are a hell of a lot cheaper, too. I even bought a spare one for 100 bucks when it popped up locally. Don't plan on running the truck hard, but won't say I will never run it,either. Best to have a spare trans just in case.

Yup,but there is a surprising (to me,anyhow) amount of hop up equipment still available for flat 6 Mopars and especially the old Stovebolt 6's. If you get into stuff like the 250 and 292/302 Chevy and GMC inlines, there is even stuff like Wayne 12 port heads available. Kinda pricey, though.
The Ford flat 6 was never very popular with hotrodders because hotrodders bought Ford's to get a V-8. Because of this hop up stuff for the flat 6 Ford is hard to find and expensive.
The flat 6 only has 10 hp less than the V-8 flathead, but the inline 6 has around 30 more ft.lbs of torque, and it's torque that moves these old cars off the line.

That's the passenger car breather. The T-Bird breather has the two humps, but is more oblong than round so it will fit under the hood scoop of the 56 and 57 T-Birds.
The T-Bird breathers are being reproduced if ya have the bucks, but AFAIK,nobody is repopping the big passenger car breathers, and they sell for stupid money to restorers.

Stovebolt 6 was OHV from 37 on, wasn't it? 150HP as Blue Flame Special in early Corvettes, from 231ci. Ford FH (Merc 239ci, final iteration, 1953) topped out at 110 HP from the factory.
You can only wring so much power out of what is essentially a lawnmower engine.

I think Chevy had OHV inline 6's starting around 1929. I used to have a 34 Chevy pu when I was living in Denver, and it had a OHV inline 6 in it when it was new. Despite being splash oilers, they were pretty good and reliable engines. I think they got pressurized oil in 53 or 54 when they went to 235 cubic inches.
I forget right at the moment, but I THINK the OHV inline Chebby engines were around 219 cubic inchers at first.
I was looking and lusting at a 292 inline GM 6 with a turbocharger on it that sat on the floor of the Bandeymere speed shop in Denver for my chebby pu,but my mother died,my father had a heart attack, and I had to sell it and move back to the east coast to take care of him. That turbo 292 with a turbo 400 behind it would have made a killer package for that little pu.
And of course I would have lied and told everybody it was the original engine in it. Most people would never know the difference.
Funny, but true story. I saw a write up in Rod and Custom on a rich guy's 30's style "track T" 28 Ford roadster pu. Unchanneled,no fenders, hood held down by two big leather straps, skinny wire wheels, etc. The owner talked a lot about how much fun he was having spanking new Camaros with it after challenging them to run him in street races. The Camaro owners thought they had it made because they could clearly see it was a 4 cylinder engine he had it it because only one hood side was cut for the headers to stick out. The owner admitted to them that the engine was hopped up,but left them free to assume anything they wanted to assume.
Nobody seems to have noticed the tach with the 15 grand red line. It was the big 250-something cubic inch OHC Offy engine out of a Indy racer. That freaking thing would FLY!

Ok,I got it now. The next two photos are of the 32 as it sits in my shop today. The third one is of the rebuilt 350 I have to put in it. The engine in the photos is a junker 283 I pulled out of the weeds to use a a pattern to make the motor mounts, headers, trans mount, headlight mounts, and radiator mounts. The 6x2 intake on it is just sitting there and not even bolted down. I had it laying around,so I just sat it on the junker engine for grins.
You can see part of my 33 Dodge 4dr in the background of one of the photos, and the rear of my 38 Ford "standard" 2dr "humpback sedan" in the other one
