From the look of all the scaffolding, at first blush I'd suspect a construction mishap before jumping to too many conclusions. The building was really old, the wood probably pretty darn dry.

That being said, this, like so many other events of late, we'll never really know the truth in this matter.

Why is my head telling me that this is going to be blamed on a cigarette smoking construction worker (like me)?

The story at ZeroHedge is a bit more in depth, but at the end of update 5, they say one of the spires was 15 feet. Surely they meant 15 metres?

Reading about this church fire triggered a memory of Our Lady of the Angels school fire in Chicago. Lots of kids were killed in that fire. ;)

A fire in the older north wing of the school occurred on December 1, 1958. It killed 92 students and 3 nuns and injured numerous others.

Thanks for the history lesson, B. A wee bit before my time, but tragic nonetheless.

I was a toddler when that fire happened. Still it caused there to be huge fire upgrades in Chicago Public and Parochial Schools. ;)
