It’s been quite a week for LGBTQ people in Trump’s America. First, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that it would gut protections for transgender and gender non-conforming people at homeless shelters; then, the Department of Health and Human Services proposed new regulations that would kill anti-discrimination protections against LGBTQ on healthcare; and Trump is also reportedly planning on making it easier for adoption agencies to reject same-sex couples. In lieu of all the heartache and pain caused by a president who promised to “fight for [the LGBTQ community] while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs,” in a tweet he wrote in the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub massacre, Trump decided to offer a special discount on its Trump Pride Tee. Trump Pride Tee For only $24 (plus $5 for gift wrapping, and $7 for shipping and handling) you can “show your pride and your support for Trump with this exclusive equality tee," while enjoying a whopping 20% discount. The “proudly made in USA” shirt features a “durable rib neckband,” and it’s made of “fine Jersey (100% cotton).” The colorful-yet-sophisticated design in the front shows a “LGBTQ for Trump” logo over a watercolor rainbow, beautifully done in pastel colors. It also has the “Trump-Pence” logo in the back, so you can show your Pride pride to onlookers on a near-360-degree radius. The Trump Pride Tee is the only $30 t-shirt on his fashion line that is currently on sale, leaving to speculation that the discount could be an appreciative Pride-month-only deal. The Daily News reached out to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee for clarification but hasn’t heard back yet. Most merchandise feature the words “PRIDE” and “JOE” where a rainbow replaces the letter “E," although an early Twitter favorite is a tank top with a trio of color-striped Aviator Ray Bans forming a gradient of the Pride rainbow — a reminder that coolness has nothing to do with age. When I was a young man in Chicago back in the mid 70s, I was doing deliveries at the fag florist on the north side. They always wanted me to march in the Clark St. (gay day) Parade. I never would because I wasn't that way. One time one of the designers came down with Hepatitis. We all had to get shots over that one. Another time coming back to the shop, we witnessed a purse snatching about half a block away. We chased the guy with the purse. He ran down the alley about the equivalent of a city block and a half. He cut thru a gangway and I bailed out of the delivery van. I chased him down in half a block, grabbed him by his sweater and slammed him to the ground. An older woman witnessed it and ran back to where she lived and had the lobby attendant call the cops. The snatcher had an 11" butcher knife on him. We recovered the purse too.
