Ride hailing behemoth Uber has revealed what many have long suspected, that motorists in major cities such as London often crawl along no faster than pedestrians. The company has released Uber Movement Speeds, an online and downloadable treasure trove of actual travel times and speeds. It shows that motorists queuing to get through Trafalgar Square rarely exceed four miles per hour, and on Northumberland Avenue motorists do not average more than three miles per hour.
It is therefore often slightly faster to walk than drive in London but, for true urban speed, its fastest to cycle.
