World News See other World News Articles Title: Tucker Comes Out Swinging Against Robber Baron Republicans! Big business has rarely, if ever, been patriotic or conservative. I never thought that Tucker Carlson would be the one working so hard to slaughter that sacred cow and shatter the illusion that has spellbound Americans for so many years. The Hill: Fox News host Tucker Carlson said late Wednesday the 2017 GOP tax cut supported by the Koch brothers “was far better for corporate America than it was for the middle class.” “For years, the brothers have been the single most important funders of Republican politics in Washington, in the country” Carlson said during his opening monologue of his primetime program, adding that Charles and David Koch have been “remarkably effective in American politics.” “But in the case of the Kochs, conservatives might want to pause and rethink the relationship,” he later added. “As it turns out, the Kochs don’t have much in common with conservatives. They are totally opposed to most conservative policy goals. The Kochs are libertarian ideologues, passionate and inflexible.” After stating that the Kochs were at odds with the American people in pushing for cuts to Social Security and Medicare while opposing a bipartisan bill to lower drug prices, Carlson broached the tax cut signed into law by President Trump in December 2017. We live in a Libertarian wet dream, not an actual country. For a brief period of time though, there were somewhat civic-minded robber barons in America who reinvested the insane profits they acquired from decades of unlimited cheap immigrant labor from Europe and stunning technological advances back into their communities. This practice led to a short but unprecedented period of prosperity and civic harmony the likes of which has rarely ever been seen in world history. We were riding on the inertia of that initial wave for nigh a century, but the gravy train is coming to a screeching halt and everyone feels it. Tucker is trying to sound the alarm about how bad the business class has become in America, telling his viewers how little they care about the country. He is also (seemingly) trying to cajole these businessmen into behaving somewhat like their predecessors not so long ago. But this last-ditch plea for some kind of sanity and responsibility won’t work. Because back then, there was both a carrot and a stick factor that got the robber barons to start playing fair. Tucker likes to focus on the good side – the fact that these businessmen still had some Protestant guilt that made them reinvest their wealth into American communities. Sure, fine. I was taught that in History class as well. But what he leaves out was the very real chance of a howling Communist mob starting a revolution in America – and that made all the robber barons sit up and take notice. There was a very real threat from Anarchists, Communists and all sorts of other revolutionary movements and so, after trying to destroy these movements and failing, the business class had to come to the negotiating table. To defuse any latent revolutionary fervor in the masses of underpaid Hungarians, Poles, Irish, Italians and of course, the newly emancipated shtetl folk, they began to start making concessions. Wages went up, companies began to offer benefits and, most importantly, these people started thinking of ways to get pissed off proles to not riot in the streets and call for Communist revolution. They settled on a novel idea: let’s give these people a stake in the country by making them middle-class! It was either that or let the anarchist bombings continue. And then, to combat the threat of Communist infiltration coming from the shtetls of Eastern Europe, they shut the borders for good measure. Furthermore, with the Soviet Union as a threat and a competitor on the world stage, the United States had to keep its A game on for a while. But once there wasn’t any ideological competition, big business threw off the muzzle and the borders came tumbling down, the jobs were sent to sweatshops in Asia, CorpSpeak – the precursor to Political Correctness – came to dominate the public discourse, and laissez-faire libertarianism took over both parties. Now, we’re living in the Oligarchs’ world, and they’ve even had the decency to drop the whole Democracy act in the last few years so that everyone can see clearly that free speech and elections don’t matter anymore. As a result, we’re entering a new period of chaos and unrest. Because of the Koch brothers’ greed, this time around, the Communist revolution seems nigh unavoidable.
