Those Fast Boats ( speeds 46 to 80 mph) have missiles capable of taking out US ships. The IRGC also has land based launchers plus helicopters and drones that can fire anti-ship missiles. They have 20,000 IRGC Marines for operations.

Being a member of the IRGC is one way to avoid the water shortages and ultimately, the food shortages that follow a lack of water.

The military has been a traditional place of refuge for civilians who are under threat of annihilation by forces the government cannot control. ;)
