Andrew Yang vows mass pardon to all imprisoned for nonviolent marijuana offenses

Entrepreneur and Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang told a crowd in New Hampshire on Friday that he would pardon every prison inmate convicted of non-violent marijuana offenses if he was elected.

The longshot candidate – who has never served in political office but has a loyal following of supporters who call themselves the “Yang Gang," made the comments during an event in Concord hosted by the ACLU of New Hampshire.

“I'm going to mass pardon everyone who is in jail for nonviolent marijuana-related offenses,” Yang said.

“Americans now recognize just how broken our mass incarceration system is and how much progress we need to make," Yang said during his remarks.

The presidential candidate has called for legalizing marijuana across the country, writing on his website, "We need to resolve the ambiguity and legalize marijuana at the federal level. This would improve safety, social equity, and generate tens of billions of dollars in new revenue based on legal cannabis businesses."

The New York City entrepreneur – once the longest of long-shots for the White House – has surged in polling and in the number of contributors to his campaign in recent months. Earlier this month, he became the ninth candidate to reach the thresholds needed to qualify for the third and four rounds of Democratic presidential primary debates, which will be held next month and in October.

Indeed. By softening penalties at least, it would relieve prisons of many genuinely victimless offenders.

This is a hellish complicated issue. We can't have thousands of young fools' lives ruined because they're caught with an ounce, but honestly, but even decriminalization beings more high drivers causing accidents.

Libertarians: "Treating pot differently from booze is hypocritical!"

Realitarians: "Why expand on an already terrible situation -- alcohol abuse."

As for Yang Dang Noodle, I suggest we regard all 'name' presidential hopefuls as wolves whose only wish is to give us the Clinton/Bush treatment. I honestly thing that's our most realistic option. Especially If they're nonwhite, Californian or Northeastern, run the other way from 'em as fast as you can!

We were working a concert at Medusa's. It was a juice bar on Sheffield about a mile south of Wrigley Field. It was on 2nd floor and was a long flight of stairs down to the street. When you had to throw someone out, you could not get them out of there if they were out of control.

I grabbed this guy for trying to get onstage. He was pretty wild going out with his arms raised up. I got him out the door and the top of the stairs. I tried to take his legs out from under him. It didn't work. So I reversed it. I slip him into a half Nelson and grab his right arm. Then I move him over 5 or 6 feet and thump his head on the corner of the wall by entrance to ladies room. That brought him down a few notches.

As soon as I cussed, the boss came running up the stairs. Just before he closed the door to the concert hall I looked and my ex partner was in there. He gave me the thumbs up.

Al was sitting there taking tickets. He said to me, "Tex, he was a big boy. You really man handled him."

You know what that guy said to our guy at the bottom of the stairs? "Where is the nearest liquor store." You think maybe he needed it to kill the pain? ROTFLMAO!

Great story -- a manhandling clearly deserved. But how did he, uh, get to the bottom of that staircase? :-s

As long as there are "for profit" prisons, that will not/cannot happen.

I knew a girl in Chicago who had two kids, each by a different father. Last time I saw here I was still working for State of Illinois. Both of those kids had dirty faces.

Now the older one is in Joliet State Pen. My sister told me the younger one had a filthy mouth.

She is living in a trailer park in NW suburban Des Plaines. I hear there is a casino out that way. Not sure if she might be working there or not. ;)
