O'Rourke visits Arkansas gun show after releasing gun control platform

Tal Axelrod 3 hrs ago

White House hopeful Beto O'Rourke visited an Arkansas gun show Saturday to talk with firearm owners and vendors about solutions to tackle gun violence.

© Getty Images O'Rourke visits Arkansas gun show after releasing gun control platform The visit comes one day after O'Rourke released a plan proposing a slate of gun control reforms and two weeks after a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, where O'Rourke represented in Congress from 2013 to 2019.

"At the show, Beto listened to voters - including many Republicans who voted for Trump in 2016 - about their thoughts on gun safety. In order to make progress, Beto believes we have to meet people where they are, and not be afraid to have hard conversations with people who may not always agree," O'Rourke's campaign said in a statement.

The Texas Democrat made gun control a cornerstone of his presidential bid since returning to the campaign trail.

He took a 12-day break from campaign to return to El Paso after a white supremacist shot and killed 22 people.

O'Rourke's plan, which also includes platforms to combat white nationalism, calls for the creation of a nationwide gun licensing system and registry, universal background checks for gun purchases and implementing a gun buyback program and a federal "red-flag law" that would allow law enforcement to seize weapons from those a judge deems a danger to themselves or others.

O'Rourke's campaign promoted interactions he had with gun show vendors and attendees who agreed with aspects of the plan, including a self-identified Trump voter who does not oppose a mandatory buyback program for assault rifles.

He sought to relaunch his campaign Thursday with a speech that described gun violence and racism as existential threats to the U.S.

"I'm confident that if at this moment we do not wake up to this threat, then we as a country will die in our sleep," said O'Rourke.

I just realized something. I've got the paid version of AVG Tuneup and AVG Internet security now, and thought it a bit obnoxious that when you boot up it automatically opens one of its specially protected browser windows with Yahoo as default search engine and a thin bar across the top of the screen saying "Make yahoo your default browser?" and offering an X to click if you don't.

BUT.... it offers links on the opening search page for a few of your most- used (or most recently used?) sites -- and when I click the one for 4um (an "F" in a large purple dot) I'm already signed in! So it's a step above Chrome in one way at least, or does this represent more spying and intrusion.

I immediately tried clicking Check Pings, and and that worked fine except this NN-less page was atop the list, and it took right to this post. Am I "4" or "*Black Ops - Psyops*" now in addition to being "The Hook-nosed Jew"? ;-)

It's great to be back, gang -- been missing yaz these past 24 hours of living it up with other great ppl.

Huh! I didn't know that Yahoo! had gone into the browser business.

Anyway, whatever it takes to keep you up, running, and online as you like. Good luck.

Thanx. I guess it's actually just a Chrome browser with Yahoo search set up in it. Yahoo is the last good search engine I'm aware of, gang, in terms of search results!

Confess I have no way of knowing whether the paid version brings better security. AVG (alone!) has been jumping on all cooties that come in for years now, with a 100% success rate -- so I guess that was as good as it gets already. Course I have no idea if there are false positives for dramatic effect. Guess the only way to test it is to open a known ransomware? Which I would never do, natch.

Here's an oddity (continuing my de-facto review here for anybody interested). One way they harangue and harass you into going Paid is telling you how many 'sensitive documents' it's found in a normal sweep, but you can't see what they are until you buy. Now that I've done so it doesn't find any. I don't remember telling it to fix any of those, but my memory's not what it used to be.

There are minor disadvantages in its handling of webpages.

AVG sounds like it's gotten quite a bit more specialized than it used to be. Am not a computer tech, so could be wrong, but I think once you've signed into 4um with your password, you're always signed in unless you clear your cookies or reinstall/roll back your computer files to the factory settings or some other point before you were initially signed in here. In either of those 3 cases (or maybe changed your ISP?), then you'd likely have to sign back in with your password or re-reset your password again to the same as it was or change it to something else, if you'd rather do that. '4' is just an abbreviation for 'All' so that wouldn't have brought you to this topic. If you didn't choose to be on the *Black Ops - Psyops* Ping List, that shouldn't have brought you here either. If you might have chosen that Ping List long ago and forgot about it, there should be a link for my post (that pinged everyone in the group), which you could find in your account-list of posts addressed or pinged To: you. Possibly, this topic or one of the posts in it happened to be at the top of 4um's Latest Comments page, and maybe you were brought here because the latest post on the Latest Comments page is what you've recently visited at 4um most often.

For sure using CCleaner and Diskmax, both IMHO life savers, erases all password info from net memory -- till now with this setup. I can click "save password" in 100 sites in regular Chrome but it'll be wiped with the next CC/DM use.

It still makes no sense about my getting this page in ping results. Have never signed a ping list, and it was definitely in my ping results. Matters not, just an oddity. Thanx...... now let me have some more real PINGS, gang, or your asses are grasses!

lol No can do, NN. You have to voluntarily subscribe to ping lists at your 4um Setup options to get real Pings. Otherwise, you'll just have to settle for whatever you get from the "surprise" AVG algorithm.

Where did I see you mentioned Ransomware?

Some jerk put that crap on my machine. He wanted $650 to take it off. The local tach removed it COMPLETELY for $40.

He told me, "Even if you paid them, there is no way to know if they would remove it completely."

That ass called and said, "I have your password."

I told him, "YOU put that crap on my machine. Don't EVER call me again." ;)
