Google searching is almost dead. You search for something 'controversial' there and the results are the direct opposite of what you want! What to do?

Yandex search was supposed to be the great completely unfiltered resource from wild 'n' crazy Russia where ppl don't care what happens in ameriKa. And it was -- until shortly after Google went under. (It also supposedly offers the most private email and searching in the world, though Ada and I have problems with its free webmail.)

On going for paid AVG I found that Yahoo searching was going strong – for a while. Today it's about like Google's! Maybe the PTB still need a real search engine and are playing a game of keep-away with it – because I just gave Yandex one of the acid tests and it got top honors:

yandex.com/search/? text=stupid%20niggers&lr=109794

Yandex shines on the ultimate test – “evil jews” etc, but you have to use parentheses. Incidentally, the vaunted alternatives Startpage and DuckDuckGo brought the same results as lousy Google!

The topic of stupid Africans in Africa is immense fun, but much more -- the devastating, unanswerable proof of innate mental differences between races. Yandex found this killer too:

yandex.com/search/? text=stupid%20african%20natives&lr=109794

Some of you are hating this topic, I'm sure – but we ABSOLUTELY MUST have freedom of search, thought, press and HUMOR. We ABSOLUTELY MUST have diversity reality. Deadly serious business -- like air and water!

Oops!!!! I meant QUOTATION MARKS.

Since doing this page up, my perception is that Yahoo, Bing and Yandex -- the big three I lauded -- vary from day to day in finding us the real, controversial goods. I can easily live withis in view of google's total treachery.

Finding the right search terms and format can be crucial. From my music zine:

Here's advanced google

https://www.google.com/advanced_search

and the stuff for the 3rd box from the top -- all this at once:

imslp wima mutopia gutenberg petrucci petruccilibrary waltercosand urresearch cpdl pdf

How do you find a list of pieces or movements in a publication? In many cases you can search its name in parentheses with WORLDCAT outside of 'em:

https://tinyurl.com/yyxh7mrf

Click (in this case, it being the main search string) the Ruth Barrett Phelps link and complete info is provided for each number.

Or google the title in box 2 with contents index in box 3.

This is called a BOOLEAN search, I believe -- but Advanced Google is purely a convenience:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boolean_algebra#Boolean_searches

The Worldcat part above prolly doesn't apply to our truth diggings, but you may find it useful sometime in other things.

Thanks for all the good info, especially the link to Google's Advanced Search.

Its Boolean capabilities are nice and useful. But limited -- you can't concoct a very complicated Boolean expression because it doesn't support parentheses.

(Former teacher of Boolean algebra here.)

Wow, impressive! Give us an example of what it can't do pls.

Say you want to search for any page that has the phrase "silver bars" and does not have the phrase "silver coins", or any page that has the phrase "gold bars" and does not have the phrase "gold coins" or the word "numismatic".

The Boolean expression for such a search would be

("silver bars" AND NOT "silver coins") OR ("gold bars" AND NOT ("gold coins" OR numismatic))

Or equivalently, by DeMorgan's Theorem:

("silver bars" AND NOT "silver coins") OR ("gold bars" AND (NOT "gold coins") AND (NOT numismatic))

I don't think you can do that with Google's Advanced Search.

("silver bars" AND NOT "silver coins") OR ("gold bars" AND (NOT "gold coins") AND (NOT numismatic))

I doubt you could do that with any search engine successfully.

I don't know about that. I may have spoken too quickly. After some study, it appears that Google search DOES recognize parentheses. AND and OR (in all caps) work for sure. And while it doesn't recognize NOT, it appears that the minus sign immediately in front of a word has that effect. But not sure about all that yet, and doubly unsure whether the minus sign works as NOT before a phrase in double quotes. More study needed...
