Russia continues surprising the West with new weapons. According to recent reports, Russian engineers develop a jammer missile called Alabuga. Rumor has it that this weapon will be able to completely neutralize enemy without even opening fire at its forces. This weapon produces a very strong radio electric impact, the power of which is comparable to the power of a nuclear explosion.

The missile can literally disable all enemy weapons and military equipment, including missiles, missile defense systems, ships and tanks, as well as any type of air, sea and ground military hardware. The Alabuga missile causes all microcircuits to come out of order. In fact, the military hardware and equipment will simply freeze in place, whereas aircraft and missiles will fall down to the ground like rocks. Support Russia Insider - Go Ad-Free!

It is believed that the Alabuga will become the most powerful prospective radio-electric bomb that will be able to deactivate and immobilize the entire combat power of the enemy completely.

The idea of a bomb that, without destroying the environment, could deactivate all of the military equipment and weapons of the enemy is not new. In 2001, the “Ranets” complex was introduced in Russia. The word “ranets” translates into English as “backpack.” The weapon looked more like a radio station than a radio-electric weapon. It was a movable system that could strike enemy equipment at a distance of up to 40 km.

The Alabuga is being developed by most advanced enterprises in the field of defence technology. There are no details about the project. It is believed, however, that the missile will be able to fly up for 300-400 meters to deactivate all military equipment and weapons within the range of four kilometers.

The United States has been developing a similar technology since 2012. The goal is to create a weapon that could hit the enemy and give total advantage over enemy forces. Yet, the USA has never presented any real system yet. The Alabuga is not a lethal missile, nor does it lead to victims when it explodes. Specialists believe that such weapons may change the strategy of wars of the future entirely.

What would it do to the civilian electric grid, computers, etc in the blast field?

And how large is the blast field?

The Rooskies have been doing lots of electronic stuff like that. Maybe the US has too with it classified, but I think there was the case of a Russian electronic weapons aircraft that shut down a US warship in the black sea just By flying near it. Happened a few years ago, but I don't think it damaged the ship.

It sounds like an EMP blast. "Electro Magnetic Pulse". Nuclear bombs give them out when they detonate, and I think I remember reading that one 100 meg nuke blasted fairly high over a territory will destroy all but the simplest electronic systems.

They are not difficult or expensive to make, either, though high quality ones with a decent area of effect might be. I think Popular Mechanics magazine gave a simple description of how to make one.

What would it do to the civilian electric grid, computers, etc in the blast field?

Destroys them. So any modern cars, cell phones and so on are dead. The EMP Pulse causes a spontaneous electric surge to be generated in about all the circuitry which fries some of the components.

And how large is the blast field?

Depends on the power of it. I think a nuke blast 50 or so miles over Ohio would fry everything in the state. Something of that scale.

Good, as long as they limit it to OH.

Thanks for the refresher on EMP, and yes, RU did whack one of our ships with a small dose.

I'm sure that some DARPA functionary is hard at work on our own version as I type.

As long as they don't kill us, I don't much care. No doubt food prices will increase 10 for several years, but I don't care even if I have to spend $500 a day on for a couple years until the price come back down.

With good reason Russia believe the US intends to surround the country with military bases and then demand its surrender. Hence, the color revolution in Ukraine.

So as I tho[t, for a second time in its modern history DC is forcing Russia to arm to the teeth. Truly contemptible beyond words.
