Waste management experts estimate they’ll take hundreds of years to biodegrade

HAH! I always knew those things were a giant fraud. They're evil in EVERY way. Article doesn't even mention the motors:

As IER pointed out last week, even if wind curbs CO2 emissions, wind installations injure, maim, and kill hundreds of thousands of birds each year in clear violation of federal law. Any marginal reduction in emissions comes at the expense of protected bird species, including bald and golden eagles.

"Another environmental trade-off concerns the materials necessary to construct wind turbines. Modern wind turbines depend on rare earth minerals mined primarily from China. Unfortunately, given federal regulations in the U.S. that restrict rare earth mineral development and China’s poor record of environmental stewardship, the process of extracting these minerals imposes wretched environmental and public health impacts on local communities. It’s a story Big Wind doesn’t want you to hear."

Why not cut them into manageable sections and use the pieces to build a border wall?

Maybe, maybe not, although one would certainly think that the EROI (Energy Returned On energy Invested) is negative. The amount of materials, labor, transportation, etc. on those monsters is vast. Getting near one of those things is a strange experience because they're so massive.

Article doesn't even mention the motors:

The generators should be 100% recyclable/reusable, including the rare earths.

I consider windmill farms to only be a government feel good/make-work scam. I've yet to encounter an alternative energy method that is environmentally or economically sound. My opinion of electric vehicles is the same, regular autos for that matter also.

They're just doing things wrong IMO. Do a EweToob search for "windmill fires." It makes for some dramatic footage.

They also kill birds. We have 3 billion fewer birds due to declining insect population, increasing chemical Ag and maybe windmills.

I have a truck driver friend that makes his living hauling powdered cement for windmill projects. Make no mistake, he's not going to give up a $1,000+/day gig to do the right thing, so I keep my opinions to myself.

I'm of the opinion that most technology today is being horribly misapplied.

I'm also a borderline Luddite. I'm a firm believer in the KISS principle.

Humanity is one big poison bomb against the environment.

Humanity is also one big poison bomb against humanity. I guess it's in our nature to destroy ourselves. I suspect that will never change.

...one would certainly think that the EROI (Energy Returned On energy Invested) is negative.

Almost certainly.

I saw an article once that claimed that very thing. It said something to the effect that a wind generator would have to operate at some high duty cycle with zero maintenance for 20 years before it would produce enough electricity to pay for the cost of producing the copper wire used in its armature.

What hope is there? We're killing off like 100 (1000?) species a day and won't survive our own technology. The end could come 50 years or 50 minutes from now, but it's clearly inevitable.

Couldn't agree with you more on that, either.... except maybe for the 'borderline' part :-3
