"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship." -- Alexander Tytler

For all practical purposes the USA already is a dictatorship except it an oligarchy; i.e., rule by a small group of bankers. There is almost nothing that is not controlled or that doesn't require permission (a license).

I asked the priest at the local church what was required to perform a marriage.

He said there was $100 fee to open the church and perform the service. He also said he needed a marriage license from the County Clerk.

I told him, 'But Father, it is apostate to require a license to perform a service that is blessed by God." ;)

I played at a wedding and afterward the preacher just sat up front in his robe. I asked him why.

"I'm waiting for them to come sign the marriage license," he said. "Without that what I've just done has is worthless." Can you imagine?

Usually the license must be issued before any ceremony takes place. At least that is the way I understand it.

I played the pipe organ for a wedding once and made $50 for it. That was when I was a kid and $50 was good money for about an hours work.

One time I was in the church in Chicago on North side and the glass started to rattle in the exit sign. I thought it was a bus going by. But it turned out it was an earthquake that took place. It was from the Sandwich fault SW of Chicago and registered about 4 on the Richter scale. It was pretty strong one for around there since they happen all the time and you never feel them. The tremors travel further in the sedimentary rocks. ;)

You're an keyboard man too? Great!

There's an old LP of a choir concert in NYC. The jacket explains that the slight rumble heard halfway through isn't a technical flaw -- just a subway passing underneath the church :-1

I was playing a wedding once and two of the spring-loaded candle holders blew their tops within seconds of each other ;-) I've got such stories....

It has been a very long time since I have tapped the keyboard. Likely could not do it any longer since my fingers are not so nimble. ;)

My playing reeks anymore since I've mostly been MIDI sequencing all pieces ;-)
