California pays $4 a gallon for gas. California has the highest gas tax rate in the US. California has environmental gas blends that make gas expensive. Two gas stations a mile apart were charging $4 and $2. One was in California and the other was in Arizona.

Good stuff as always with Tim. Do you spose there could be anything to his surmise near the end that high demand for gas in CA, its dramatic terrain etc. could be pushing prices up?

It's the blends that drive up prices. Different blends for different driving conditions. Maybe? Though driving up and down hills (Santa Cruz to San Jose daily commute)would require more gas and more repairs.
