My eldest children attended Vista High. We lived in the area for several years. It was a very good school at one time. They had such a great experience and so did I actually. But even then, certain parks were beginning to be run over by hispanics. However, it is still a great place to live, and so is Oceanside. If you have school age children, Carlsbad and Encinitas are better. One of my sons and his friends were chased by illegals a few times. They would run into the greenhouses and yell "Immigration!". They thought it was funny.
Lived in San Marcos for about 7 years when it was still kinda "country". Moved (back) to WA in 1995.
San Marcos is going through similar changes. That's about when I left San Diego. I worked in La Jolla a couple years ago for 6 months, the traffic is far worse. My sister still lives in San Diego but has no real commute, so she still loves it.
