Chicago holds lottery for chance to sell legal weed in the city: ‘African American participation at this point is zero. That’s a problem.’

Long before the lottery to determine which marijuana dispensary companies would get to sell recreational pot in Chicago next year, the room in City Hall was packed, with business owners, company reps and executives filling every seat.

Industry experts and weed firm representatives crowded into the room on Friday, standing along the walls and spilling out into the hallway for a chance to try their luck at getting one of the more lucrative locations in the citywide weed sales bonanza set to start Jan 1.

Though Mayor Lori Lightfoot preached equity, the crowd was not diverse. It was an overwhelmingly white and male group decked out in business suits, casual sweaters with their company logos embroidered into the front, and hoodies representing elite Catholic high schools.

Paul Nowacki, of Elevele, traveled from Highland Park and showed up to City Hall hours before the lottery to make sure he got inside and settled before the action began. But because the lottery randomly selected the firms, he wasn’t called on until the process was nearly done and the prime spots were taken.

Still, Nowacki said he was pleased with getting a special permit to operate in the Far South District.

“It’s a privilege to participate and to get to be one of the few dispensaries chosen,” he said afterward. “We didn’t get the location we wanted, but on the Far South Side there is lots of opportunity, so we are glad.”

Starting in January, existing medical dispensaries will be the first allowed to sell recreational marijuana in the city, thanks to a law the City Council passed last month.

A large portion of downtown is off limits for legal sales, but the city will allow up to seven dispensaries to operate in each zone throughout the city.

Thirty-one applicants vied for the 38 permits that were up for grabs, so each of the prospective pot business operators had a chance at landing a permit. Several applied for multiple locations.

Current medicinal marijuana dispensary operators got priority access in obtaining a recreational sales permit.

From someplace outside I hear the street vendor cry, "Filet Gumbo"....

When I lived in Chicago in late 70s, this girl who lived across the street ad was in High School came to my front door with her girlfriend. She told me some guy tried to pick her up when she was walking home alone.

I said, "Let's go and we will look for this guy." We hop in my Blazer and head toward the High School. We spot him a couple of blocks from the school. I make U-turn and get behind him.

He pulled over on 4-lane near phone company building and waits for traffic to come and pulls out in front of them. I had to wait for a few cars to go past. But I caught him at gas station next to Post Office 4 blocks away.

The two guys in gas station did not make a move. The girls got his tag number. I told them write it down right now and give it to Rick the school cop.

They found out he lived right across the street from the school. So they put a good looking blond lady cop out front.

He come popping out the door and sees her. He walks up to her and says, "Hey baby. Let's go upstairs and we can smoke a joint."

She gives the signal and they bust him. They go upstairs and find weed.

He is sitting in the shitter when I find out. So I tell the guys in the hood, "Get some ball bats and let's go." We pile into my Blazer and head toward the High School. I point out the car and go around the block. They jump out and take all the windows out of the car all the way around. Then they run and jump back in.

I see this guy again a month or two later hitting on chicks walking alone down the street. He pulls over to get out of his car. I have this chick in the truck with me. I tell her, "Get down." I stop and holler at him, "Hey! I see you're still up to your old tricks." And I was out of there.

People like that don't change. And if he has been in prison they get rid of molesters in there pretty quick. ROTFLMAO!
