President Trump told reporters today that the revelations from the Department of Justices Inspector General (IG) report into the spying by the Obama administrations FBI was worse than I would have ever thought possible and that the effort to spy on his campaign and early presidency was an attempted overthrow of our government.
The 434-page report found lying, omissions, and malfeasance by FBI officials at the highest levels of the Bureau, but ultimately the IG found that there was a proper foundation to investigate and spy on then-candidate Trumps campaign. That conclusion was hotly disputed by Attorney General Bill Barr and John Durham, the U.S. attorney investigating the election spy scandal.
Trump told reporters at the White House that catching FBI officials who fabricated evidence and
lied to the courts to have things go their way red-handed was one thing, but now hes looking forward to results of the Durham investigation:
And a lot of people were in on it and they got caught. They got caught red-handed. And I look forward to the Durham report, which is coming out in the not-too-distant future. Hes got his own information, which is this information plus, plus, plus. Its an incredible thing that happened and were lucky we caught them.
President Trump said, I think Im going to put this down as one of our greatest achievements because of what we found about the Obama era spying scandal. He also reiterated that this should never happen to another president.
Most of those involved in the Obama spy scandal have been fired or demoted, including FBI Director Jim Comey, FBI investigator Peter Strzok, FBI attorney Lisa Page, and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Bruce Ohr, the FBI official whose wife worked for the company hired by Hillary Clintons people to make up dirt on Trump, Fusion GPS, was demoted.
