63-Year-Old Dying of Cancer After Using This Common Household Product Every Day Since 1950

Eva Echeverria, 63, is dying of cancer. She is also fighting to ensure that other women do not needlessly suffer like she has.

In 2007, Echeverria was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She does not believe that this terminal diagnosis was simply bad luck.

She believes that the cancer was the result of using a specific product daily since the 1950s. There is a good chance that this common household product has been or is currently in your home.

What’s even more concerning is that the product Echeverria has used daily is often used on infants.

In fact, Johnson & Johnson states on its website that this product “has been a staple of baby care rituals and adult skin care and makeup routines worldwide for over a century.”

The product is the company’s baby powder. Echeverria has regretted using it ritually.

She wants Johnson & Johnson to properly label the baby powder with warnings. She filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson for failing to do so.

Not only did she file, but she won! Echeverria was awarded $70 million in compensatory damages and $347 million in punitive damages.

Her ovarian cancer was linked to using the baby powder. The $417-million verdict from the jury is the biggest award so far.

There are more than 300 lawsuits pending in California alone alleging that Johnson &Johnson has ignored the connection between the main ingredient of talc in their baby powder and cancer. The company issued a statement in response to the verdict.

A 1982 study found that women who used talcum powder on or near their genitals were at an astounding 92% increase for developing ovarian cancer. The study was cited in the lawsuit.

Johnson & Johnson’s statement reads, “Ovarian cancer is a devastating diagnosis and we deeply sympathize with the women and families impacted by this disease. We will appeal today’s verdict because we are guided by the science, which supports the safety of Johnson’s Baby Powder.”

Whether or not one agrees with the verdict, it is clear that Echeverria has been experiencing great suffering because of cancer. Hopefully, lawsuits such as these lead to safer products.

When I would get crotch rot I would use corn starch to get rid of the rash.

What sort of baby-powder ritual begins at age six?

Not so sure. I really do not recall what my Mom used when I had diaper rash. ;)
