I hope Trump agrees and sets a timetable.

This is a resolution and non binding.

Trump should agree, give a timetable and warn of consequences if anyone interferes.

Trump will be berated about leaving friends etc etc. What a horrible thing to do.

Carlson would at once demand Trump be impeached.

The deep state swamp is very much domestic, not foreign. It's about career gov workers that have been at their jobs for 25, 35 years or more who think they know better how to run the US than the electorate does. It's not about loyalties to foreign entities at all. It's about loyalties to their own selfish ideals.

Wouldn't blame them. Probably safer that way, but yes, Persian would seemingly refer to a culture, Iranian a nation. Probably more pride that way. Persia alludes to much more ancient roots, and predates Islam itself by some 1500 years.

Which is true, but those loyalties don't prevent them from mucking about with foreign entities like internationalist reds or the muslim brotherhood.

They share agents, financial arrangements and propaganda outlets with them.

Be cognisant that the Iraqi parliment barely had a quorum to pass this non-binding resolution to present to a lame duck administration that will have to pass it on to the next executive in a matter of months. Quite near half the assembly was not present as Sunni Arab and Kurdish representatives had boycotted the session.

Once there's an actual statutory declaration related to the end of foreign forces on their soil, the US and Iraqi government will then have months to work out how the US exit will take place. So this action is not the earthshaker it's been made out to be.

And that's not to say that I give a fig what any of these guys think. If I had my druthers all our peeps would be home tomorrow.

I heard it was non-binding, and I can certainly believe the Kurds are too loyal to the US, having no love for the rest of Iraq. And naturally, the Sunnis aren't going to do anything to help the Shia majority. I guess it comes down to how much outrage & Iraqi pride the head honcho there has, and how effective the US state department and/or CIA will be in persuading him. But if they don't expel the US, it will really be an expression of Iraqis being dogs, serving themselves up to being walked on and butchered at will by their American masters. Americans kill a high ranking Iraqi military office in direct violation of the Iraq/US agreement (or so they claim) and Iraq responds by doing.... nothing. That's a strong pill for any patriotic Iraqi to swallow.

There's another consideration. If war is coming between the US and Iran, and Iraq has US bases in its borders, it's going to be caught up in the conflict. If Iraq orders the US out, then Iraq will be much more out of harm's way.

Not to disparage anything that you say or to diminish what individual Iraqis might say of their nation, but how much patriotism of the sort that we commonly think of can there be in a country created by the British & derived from a kingdom that only achieved independence from Britain in 1932?

Some time ago friend of mine went to Iraq. He was CO of health sanitation unit or some such.

Basic training for Iraq recruits???? Instruct them what toilet paper was for and how to use it. He was appalled, did his year and came home. Later army offered him Lt. Col. if he would volunteer for another year in Iraq. He retired.

Bush took us there and the SOB should be made to do a tour there.

Yes. I understand a high ranking Iraqi military officer was also killed in the attack on Soleimani. Of course there were also 2 drivers and bodyguards, I think, no doubt Iraqi. Not high ranking military guys, but certainly no less a life than the US contractor whose death set off this latest chain of events.

I think that Trump finally got tired of this character running around the middle east, and the rest of the globe, fomenting incidents of terrorism against US and took action to stop him. No doubt there's already another one in the wings, but I doubt that he'll be quite as bold an actor as Soleman used to be.

Maybe he'll stay in Tehran and use his Twitter account, who knows?

Well, you know what they say. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

What I've gathered from the reports about him in the MSM tells me he was a very skilled military tactician. I've heard no claim to suggest he murdered civilians in cold blood, which would qualify one as a terrorist. If so, then he was just a warrior who fought well for his country.
