Proving that the attack was merely to save face.

Well, Iraq is essentially an ally of Iran, and Iran is in a delicate situation where it wants to punish the US but doesn't want Iraq to suffer any collateral damage or injuries, so it would make sense for Iran to warn Iraq. Or maybe Iran wants to prove that they are better friends than the US, because the US did not warn Iraq when they carried out their bombings.

Iraq informing the US, if they did so, would be because Iraq has no national pride. The US can break their agreement and kill even high ranking Iraqi military commanders, and the Iraq leadership doesn't care. They still bow down to the USA.

But realistically, the US military should have detected the launches immediately. I guess there were no Patriot missile batteries on hand to intercept the missiles.

uess there were no Patriot missile batteries on hand to intercept the missiles.

No Army sets up that many men without air defenses. They did not use the Patriot because it is embarrassingly bad.

embarrassingly bad

Perfect description.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

It certainly has a horrible history, but I don't know if any improvements in the last 15 years has made any difference.
