within the constraints of the legal process...

Note: This was Press TV’s headline, not mine. I think Trump and Pompeo should get a fair trial and THEN be executed, in accordance with international law and US law. -KB

Press TV interview with Kevin Barrett, Veterans Today Editor

US President Donald Trump and senior officials in his administration must face execution for ordering the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, which was an “act of murder” based on lies and false claims, an American scholar says.

“That makes the murder of General Soleimani completely illegal, and clearly a war crime, an act of murder,” said Kevin Barrett, an author, journalist and radio host with a Ph.D. in Islamic and Arabic Studies.

“Here in the United States, murderers are still executed, so President Trump, [Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo and whoever else is behind this crime should be executed,” Barrett told Press TV on Wednesday.

US assassination of General Soleimani was ‘immoral action’: New York Times US assassination of General Soleimani was ‘immoral action’: New York Times

The US assassination of General Qassem Soleimani on the orders of President Donald Trump was an “immoral action,” according to an editorial in The New York Times.

The US military carried out an airstrike on the order of Trump at Baghdad’s international airport on January 3, assassinating General Soleimani and the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, as well as eight other companions.

In an apparent about-face, Pompeo said on Monday the assassination of Soleimani was part of a “bigger strategy of deterrence,” a shift from Trump’s previous claim that the deadly drone strike was carried out to prevent an “imminent” attack.

Immediately after the January 3 drone strike that claimed the life of General Soleimani, Pompeo alleged that Soleimani had been involved in planning an “imminent attack” in the region that “put American lives at risk.”

US Senate Democrats said on Tuesday they had enough votes in the Republican-controlled Senate to pass a resolution curbing Trump’s ability to wage war on Iran without congressional approval, which would be a rebuke of the Republican president for ordering the killing of General Soleimani.

To become law, the measure must pass the House of Representatives and either be signed by Trump or garner a two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress in order to override his veto.

Many members of Congress, including some of Trump’s fellow Republicans as well as Democrats, have been pushing the administration for more information about the killing.

Criticism grew as Trump and his top officials have offered shifting justifications for the drone strike.

It's not a war crime, because we were not at war. If we were at war, then it would not be a crime, as killing each other's generals is what warring parties do.

Then simply an act of murder.

Yes it is. Or in the case of a gov doing it, state sponsored terrorism, as defined at the current time.

Perhaps Trump doesn't realize it but he has stooped to the level of standard held by most countries in the region. Killing out of revenge, with no due process. Trump also killed 9 other people in taking out Soleimani. Two drivers, bodyguards and so on. At least half were Iraqi, maybe more, but no regard for the lives of innocents is, again, a normal practice by traditional terrorists.

In war, there is no "nice" level or standard of how people are killed.

Two positives come to mind, Trump is NOT a politician, two, Trump not Jimmy Carter nor Obama.

Realists understand there are bad people in this world, always has been, idealists are convinced that if we all play nice the world will be a wonderful place.

Idealists such as Chamberlain were heros to the world, it took a realist named Churchill to save the world.

Truman bombed the Japs back into the dark ages, hand wringers and whiners now condemn Truman. I cheered because it saved me and a half million other American kids from dying,.

Just play nice is bullshit, sitting at home in a comfy chair.

Big amen. Thanks.
