Sir Lod...

Thank you for that. I read it in full, few will do so.

Later I will add to this excellent history lesson.

Cool. Those who fail to know history are doomed to repeat it. ;)

I found the article both educational and inspirational, on a personal level.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

History lesson for you two.

Due my poor eyesight...

If you take few minutes to look on internet, at the time of Coxeys Army in Washington, there is photo of three future army famous generals that were in charge of putting down the revolt. Find the photo and I will add a story.

Coxeys Army in Washington

I found that it was a march in 1894 of unemployed from Ohio.

I'd never heard of this event, but even with the below information, you need to fill in some blanks, thank you

That was a lot of shoe leather they wore out back then.

1894 was the year my maternal Grandfather was born. ;)

All three, MacArthur, Patton, Eisenhower, were total bastards for what they did at the Bonus Aamy camp, out side DC. BTW: they all got promoted for what they did.

I found several photos of the three generals but none at the Bonus march. ;)

But you see they were under orders.

Wait, that line did not work for the Germans. :-O

Well, a mild brain-fart led us to another protest army that we'd never known about, thank you.

Up from my nap.

There is up close photo taken at Bonus march of MacArthur a four star general, Patton a Colonel and Eisenhower a LT. an aide to MacArthur.

FDR wanted the Bonus army crushed. MacArthur was army Chief of Staff and was given the job of doing because he hated MacArthur. FDR hated him because MacArthur was a hero in WWI. FDR took a job in government where he was draft proof.

To crush the Bonus men, FDR had a fool proof plan. MacArthur was to command the TROOPS IN PERSON ON THE STREETS, therefore if anything went wrong FDR would hang it on MacArthur. MacArthur wrote of it later, he was to be the scapegoat if too many people died. That is why there is the photo close up of the three on the streets.

Mind you FDR and MacArthur were distant cousins. When Japs invaded in Pacific, Mac was long retired living in Philippines. FDR recalled him to active duty and hung the surrender on MacArthur.

MacArthur was an 8th cousin to Winston Churchill. I bet you did not know that.

This is how the great leaders of WW II were related by marriage. ;)

Interesting.

Remember the scene from The Dirty Dozen when they pull up in the neighboring unit's camp and the Colonel says he needs someone to play a General?

The guy gets out to review the troops, and he asks one private, "Where are you from son?" The trooper responds and he says, "I never heard of it." LOL
