The F-35 Lightning II's problems include hundreds of software vulnerabilities and guns that don't shoot straight, according to a new Pentagon report on issues with Lockheed Martin's $428 billion program. Air Force models of the F-35 use an internally mounted 25mm Gatling gun that has 'unacceptable' accuracy due to 'misalignments,' according to an upcoming report from the Pentagon's test office obtained by Bloomberg. The mounts on the guns are also cracking, forcing the Air Force to restrict use of the gun, the report says. The Marine and Navy versions of the Joint Strike Fighter use an externally mounted version of the gun that does not have the same issues, according to the report.

If we ever get into a shooting war with a nation that has modern weaponry instead of a ragtag bunch of sheep herders with AK-47s, we're screwed.
I worked at a Marine air base in the 90's. They were to get the F-35 in the mid 90's, I left in 2001, no F-35. In 2010 one was delivered, put in a hangerwith armed guards.
No involved big general will lose any rank over the F-35 debacle, when all the leadership should be canned (if not put in jail).
