According to the expert, this would mean that the planet would be plunged into a period of extreme winter and chilly cold storms during the next 30 years. According to NASA, the Sun will reach its lowest activity in over two centuries in 2020. As a result of it going into a natural period of hibernation, Earth could see temperatures drop, resulting in food shortages on a global scale. The temperature could also drop by as much as one degree Celsius over a period of roughly 12 monthsan incremental yet significant change in climate conditions that could have unpredictable results. Valentina Zharkova, a professor at Northumbria Universitys department of mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering, told the Sun that the period will be an expanded version of the solar minimums that naturally occur every 11 years. However, rather than lasting only a few years, the Grand Solar Minimum could last for up to 33 years. The professor, who has published multiple scientific papers on the subject, said: The Sun is approaching a hibernation period. Less sunspots will be formed on the solar surface and thus less energy and radiation will be emitted towards the planets and the Earth. The reduction in temperature will results in cold weathers on Earth, wet and cold summers, cold and wet winters. We will possibly get big frosts as is happening now in Canada where they see [temperatures] of -50 C (-122 F). But this is only the start of GSM, there is more to come in the next 33 years. The last Grand Solar Minimum known to have occurred was the Maunder Minimum, which lasted from 1645 to 1715. During that frigid 70-year period, temperatures plummeted across the globe and famous waterways in Europe including the Thames and Amsterdam canal completely froze over. We can only hope that the mini ice age will not be as severe as it was during the Maunder Minimum. This would dramatically affect food harvests in middle latitudes, because the vegetables and fruits will not have enough time for harvesting. So it could lead to a food deficit for people and animals, as we seen in the past couple of years when the snow in Spain and Greece in April and May demolished [their] veggie fields, and the UK had a deficit of broccoli, and other fruits and veggies. However, other experts believe that the cold period that occurred during the Maunder Minimum was also triggered by other factors including the gigantic plumes of ash spewed out in a series of volcanic eruptions. Likewise, experts believe that climate change will ensure that the world remains in the grip of fast-heating planetary conditions regardless of any Grand Solar Minimums. Professor Matthew Owens, a solar scientist at Reading University, told the Sun: The small reduction in the Suns energy associated with a solar minimum is vastly offset by effects caused by human activity, such as CO2 in the atmosphere... Thus there will probably be no detectable effect on global climate. Poster Comment: In 1709 three volcanoes erupted in Europe. So much ash was thrown into the sky that it helped to cause what was called The Big Freeze. Food prices in Europe rose 600%. The ground froze to a depth of one meter (40 inches.) The wine in bottles froze near King Louis XIV and his large fireplace. In 1815 Mt Tambora in Indonesia erupted and sent so much ash into the sky that it caused a " 1816 year without a summer." It snowed in August of 1816 in America. There were only a billion people on the earth at that time. If that happened today, billions of people would die. The Big Freeze of 1709 happened during the Maunder Minimum (1645-1715). Edward Maunder noticed that the reduction in sunspots was directly correlated with cooler temperatures and reduced crop yields which led to starvation and political unrest. In the modern era Dr Valentina Zharkova noticed that more significant than the slight global cooling is the reduction of the sun's magnetosphere. This allows more cosmic rays (nuclear particles from distant decaying stars) to strike the earth. The New Madrid fault had a major quake on 12-25-1699 during the Maunder Minimum (1645-1715). During the Dalton Minimum (1793-1833), the New Madrid fault had 4 quakes on 3 days in 1811-1812. Japanese scientists also noted an increase in the number of volcanoes during a Grand Solar Minimum. The likely cause of the increase in both quakes and volcanoes is the increased number of cosmic rays energizing the earth. The world is entering a new Grand Solar Minimum in 2020. A weakened magnetosphere for the earth means that our jet stream is allowed to wander about creating havoc with our weather. Intense droughts in some areas and floods in others. More cosmic rays also means that we have more clouds, more cloud cover and even colder temperatures as clouds reflect sun rays back out into space. Clouds also appear at lower altitudes. The above is not good for farmers and people who like to eat. Had never heard of Maunder before; reading some of his works now at gutenberg.org. And your blog is also interesting and helpful. BTW I went 9 days without eating once. It changed me. Thanks for all the good work you're doing.
I bet you at least had to drink water. Humans can only go a few days without drinking. Lack of water kills pretty quick. ;) "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one." Edmund Burke
Please explain. Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner. Nothing to drink, not even water. IV fluids only.
Couldn't eat or drink leading up to and recovering from intestinal resection surgery. With nothing going into the stomach, after several days the psychological effect of the hunger was profound. How did it change me? I appreciate food as never before. And I can't stand to see anybody go hungry, especially a child. I can't feed 7 billion people, but if anybody I know or meet is hungry, I'll give him food.
