Meet the Clampett clan - There's Jed; the kind and intelligent patriarch (although lacking formal education) turned into an overnight millionaire through a stroke of luck. While he appears to be in a state of retirement, he is still frequently kept busy by trying to keep his family out of trouble and make peace with his neighbors. Then there is Granny; the matriarch of the clan who is mature, highly opinionated, paranoid of new-fangled ways and things. She considers herself to be highly educated (a self proclaimed Doctor of Hillbilly Medicine) and has difficulty understanding why anyone doubts her wisdom. Then there is Elly May; beauiful, but awkwardly naive. Apparently in her late teens or early twenties, she is considered an 'Old Maid' by the standards of her culture back in the mountains of her childhood. Last but not least, there is Jethro Bodine, the somewhat slow-witted nephew of Jed. He is constantly attempting to find a girlfriend by impressing them with his education.

This the episode in which Granny refers to the 'Civil War' as 'the war betwixt the Yankees and the Americans' -- etc etc.!

Why do people still love TBH so much?

BECAUSE IT'S SO 'REAL', such rollicking fun, and makes such great points along the way. Really does!

LOVED Granny (Irene Ryan) and the BHB! She made the show.

She was at her best when cookin' up varmints like crawdads and possum stew, and the episodes that she played "Dr. Granny".

The Beverly Hillbillies (a Top Show till the very end) -- along with the hilarious Green Acres and Petticoat Junction -- were unceremoniously eliminated as part of CBS's "Rural Purge".

They were good-natured, funny escapism that the entire family could watch together.

What replaced it?

The so-called "real world" that wound up as toxic seeds of the SJW Agenda (MASH, All In The Family, Mary Tyler Moore) :-/

You'll appreciate this mini-doc on the Beverly Hillbilies:

Buddy Ebsen

Did you know Buddy Ebsen was supposed to be the Tin Man on the Wizard of Oz but he had an allergic reaction to the silver make up? ;)

That misadventure takes up a large chunk of the Jerry Springer segment (#7 above) ;)

Jerry Springer

I was in NYC in the truck once in late 90s. I walked up the hill to find a restaurant. There was a Marquee that read, "THE JERRY SPRINGER SHOW". I always thought he was a freak and someone told me he still is a freak. ;)

Amen!

Springer's ilk took down the "corny," sunny humor of the Beverly Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle USMC, and Green Acres, replacing them with the eventual darker salacious shows.

Also notice how they began glorifying human greed, weakness and corruption as seen in the Jerry Springers, Jenny Joneses, shows featuring divorced families with wise-cracking brats, and The Kardashians? Yes...ALL part of being PROGRAMMED.

Green Acres

I am sure that Arnold Ziffel would agree. ;)

NASCAR team owner and semi-retired driver, Tony Stewart, had a pet pig named PorkChop. Probably EweToob videos out there.

I guess the big news in NASCAR Nation is that Tony is going to run in the Xfinity race at the Indianapolis Speedway Roadcourse on July 4th.

Tony is an Indiana native, as is Ryan Newman, who was pretty badly injured in this year's Daytona 500 on the last lap. Really looked like a replay of the 2001 Daytona 500 when Dale Earnhardt died on the last lap in what looked like a minor crash.
