Brief Synopsis:
NASA astronauts are suddenly pulled from the first mission to Mars moments before their rocket is set to launch. They are shocked. The rocket takes off without them and the world watches, transfixed.
The astronauts are secretly moved to an undisclosed location, occasionally coerced into making fake public broadcasts home to their families in order to pretend everything is going well according to plan during the mission and "landing" to Mars. If they don't agree to maintain the charade, their families will be "accidented."
It is said that the Global Elites operate in the open, "in plain sight."
NASA oddly had no problem allowing their logo and name associated with 'Capricorn One.' It's org and leaders were portrayed as corrupt, deceptive, and cold-blooded.
NASA concerns of the day with respect to public boredom with Moon landings and subsequent funding for NASA and future missions were also woven into the flick (again, Art imitating Life?)
This was an excellent flick made in 1978, a mere 6 years after NASA's last alleged "Moon Landing".
Several noteworthy observations, messages and ironies in this movie are made -- INCLUDING a scene that simulated the "Martian" landing area... on a Hollywood set. (obviously an analogy for the Moon)
FINAL NOTE:
As not to be totally obvious about the intentions of plot and "conspiracy" over exposing truth indirectly, the latter part of movie (involving Telly Savalas) devolves into implausible, cartoonish nonsense. In my opinion, this technique was used as cover for the producers (as well as for NASA and the PTB.)
I remember that flick. At the end when Roddy Piper destroys the machine that gave the aliens their camouflage, there was this chick humping an alien. She stopped when the truth was revealed to her eyes. The alien said, "What's wrong baby?" :-O
