Life hasn't been easy for guitar legend Carlos Santana. In fact, it's been a long and bumpy road to legendary status for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and his real-life story is full of tragedy. Here are some of the things he's had to tough through.

Born in southern Mexico, Carlos Santana's family moved to Tijuana when he was seven. He told Rolling Stone his father put him and his brothers to work, selling gum on the street, shining shoes, and eventually, singing Mexican folk songs. He opted into John McLaughlin's Hindu shtick for awhile. This growling number you hear in ads etc. is his'n -- I think it's kinda catchy

I was driving big trucks in '99. Working concerts were a thing of the past at that point. ;)

Thanks, B. There's nothing like a rock orchestra with 2 drummers, stoked crowd and expert camera work, I find -- if the music's good, that is!

Have never seen a performer wave a crowd on in their acclaim before tho, as Santana does here during the 2 parts of the song -- sort of like that condenscending backhand motion popes do when addressing the hordes at St. Peter's ;)
