Over the course of about a week I watched the 10 part miniseries called "Pacific". It's a WW2 dramatization about the island campaigns in the Pacific from the perspective of US marines tasked with taking several islands.
It is a Tom Hanks production, and while I think all of us object to his politics, he did a great job with this in capturing the realities of combat far better than this "Combat" series does. The only part that isn't real, as far as I could discern, is that it was only 10 parts and too short, and misses the application of sheer time that no doubt presses on one's mental state under such conditions.
My Mom was in love with a Sea Bee. But he got killed in the South Pacific. Then she met my Dad in a dance hall. She always told my two sisters, "Never marry someone you meet in a dance hall." :-/
